Sevilla vs Man United: Champions League Round of 16 first leg preview

The winners of the 2016 and 2017 Europa League go head to head on Tuesday night as United take on Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Manchester United head into the match on the back of Saturday’s 2-0 win at Huddersfield in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Romelu Lukaku scored both for Jose Mourinho’s side.

United’s form of late has been inconsistent, with two wins and two defeats in their last four in all competitions.

Qualifying as winners of last season’s Europa League, the Group Stage draw was kind to United. The Red Devils duly finished as winners of Group A, above Basel, CSKA Moscow and Benfica. Anthony Martial finished the Group Stage with 3 goals.

Vincenzo Montella’s side finished second in Group E, behind Liverpool but above Spartak Moscow and Maribor. Sevilla drew both their matches against the Reds, including an incredible come-from-behind 3-3 draw against Klopp’s men.

Sevilla are currently 5th in La Liga and come into the match on the back of three straight wins. Wissam Ben Yedder and Pablo Sarabia scored in Sevilla’s 2-1 away win at Las Palmas on Saturday.

The match will be the first time these two sides face each other in UEFA club competition.

The second leg will take place at Old Trafford on 13 March.
