Brighton vs Chelsea: Premier League preview

Premier League champions Chelsea take on Brighton at the Amex on Saturday.

Chelsea progressed to the 4th round of the FA Cup on Wednesday night after their penalty shootout win over Championship side Norwich.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw after extra time as they finished the game with eight outfielders.

Prior to Wednesday, Chelsea had gone four matches without a win, and failed to score a single goal in any of their previous three.

Recent results have seen Chelsea fall behind Manchester United and Liverpool in the table, although they still head into the weekend with a three point lead over Spurs.

Brighton are dropping down the table…

The Seagulls have one win in their last five, and come into the match on the back of last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at West Brom.

Chris Hughton’s side will begin the weekend in 16th, just three points above the drop zone.

Chelsea won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day, with goals from Spanish duo Marcos Alonso and Alvaro Morata. Both goals were also set up by Spaniards (Cesc Fabregas and Cesar Azpilicueta).

Only Manchester City have taken more points on the road this season than Chelsea, who also boast the joint-best away defensive record.
