Aston Villa vs West Ham
Round five of the Premier League ends on Monday night at Villa Park.
Will Villa end the round in the relegation places?
After four games this season, Dean Smith’s side are third-bottom of the standings.
A 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace before the international break left Villa with just three points.
As for West Ham, the Irons are 7th in the division.
West Ham have won their last three games in a row.
Marvelous Nakamba & Jonathan Kodjia: Aston Villa early team news
Aston Villa have posted a new interview with manager Dean Smith on the club’s website this week.
In it, Smith has discussed Villa’s injury issues before the West Ham game.
One player who is set to miss out on Monday night is summer signing Matt Targett. Smith said:
Targett will probably be looking at the Arsenal game. I think Monday will come too quickly for him.
Another player who could miss out against the Hammers is Jonathan Kodjia. He’s picked up an injury, with Smith revealing:
Jonathan had trained all the way up until the Crystal Palace game. He was available but we didn’t involve him because he hadn’t had enough minutes.
Unfortunately he’s picked up an innocuous head injury, which we’re assessing at the moment. We’ll see how he is.
Could Marvelous Nakamba be involved against the Irons?
The Zimbabwean appears to be in line for his Premier League debut, as Smith confirmed:
As for Marvelous, he’s close to being ready. Everyone saw him play against Crewe, where he was finding his fitness in that game.
He got better as that game went on and hasn’t missed a training session since.
He’s looking good. He’s pushing the likes of Douglas Luiz and Conor Hourihane, who has played well for Ireland.
