Martin Braithwaite was left out of Middlesbrough’s squad that beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 on Friday evening.
‘Martin has got a great responsibility on his shoulders for the next two home games’
Despite this, Tony Pulis believes that the Danish international will be very important to Boro in the coming games.
Speaking after Sheffield Wednesday about Braithwaite’s absence from the game and his key role, Pulis stated:
“Martin didn’t come in until Thursday so it was difficult.
“The team I played at Sheffield Wednesday was the team I played at Leeds. We played very well at Leeds and I fancied it.
“Martin has got a great responsibility on his shoulders for the next two home games.
“I’ve put it to him to clear his mind this weekend. He’s been away, but we want him ready to go on Tuesday and Saturday.”
Tony Pulis also commented upon Stewart Downing after his great display vs Sheffield Wednesday:
“He’s a proper pro, a proper player.
“He knows the game, he knows how to play. He can get a little bit sloppy at times because it is so easy for him, but I think the world of Stewart.
“We will pick the running stats up tomorrow and you’ll see that him and Jonny Howson, those types of players, will have run more than anyone else.”
Middlesbrough vs Rotherham
After picking up a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday evening, Boro found themselves top of the table.
However, Boro would need West Brom, Sheffield United and Leeds all to lose on Saturday for Middlesbrough to stay top.
By a big stroke of luck, all three teams did lose and Middlesbrough now go into Tuesday’s game with Rotherham as league leaders.
While Boro’s lack of goals is still a concern, their defensive record is sublime, letting in just seven goals in 13 league games.
As for Rotherham, they are 20th in the table and have failed to pick up a win in their last five matches.
