Anthony Martial

An Anthony Martial goal vs Liverpool would cost Man United a fortune

Manchester United vs Liverpool

Gameweek 30 of the Premier League kick-off with a bang on Saturday at Old Trafford.

Manchester United welcome eternal rivals Liverpool to the Theatre of Dreams in a huge match in the race for the top four.

Man United are second in table on 62 point, while Liverpool are third on 60.

When the sides met earlier in the season they played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield.

Anthony Martial’s next Man United goal will be expensive

Will Anthony Martial come back into the Man United side against Liverpool?

The French forward has been a key member of Jose Mourinho’s squad this season. He’s scored 11 goals in all competitions, as well as chipping in 10 assists.

But he missed Monday night’s 3-2 win at Crystal Palace with a knock. Jose Mourinho explained:

He’s injured, I don’t know so well but yesterday he felt he was not ready for the game. We trust in the other players, we never complain.

If Martial does return against Liverpool, and if he scores, Man United will incur a sizeable cost. As reported in the Times:

United will have to pay Monaco another instalment of €10 million (£8.9 million) when Martial scores his 25th league goal. He is currently on 24.

Martial’s Man United future

22-year-old Martial is under contract at Old Trafford until 2019, amid reports that Juventus are considering try to sign him from United.

However the Red Devils seem to hold all the cards right now. Again, the Times report:

Martial’s present deal, which he signed following his transfer from Monaco, expires in less than 16 months’ time.

United have the option to extend that contract by another 12 months, but the club want to make sure one of their most talented forwards stays at Old Trafford even longer.
