Marco Silva wants Barcelona’s Andre Gomes on permanent deal

Gomes struggles at Barca

Andre Gomes signed for Barcelona in 2016 from fellow La Liga side Valencia for a fee of around £33 million.

However, after spending two seasons at Barcelona, Gomes had failed to impress.

The centre midfielder had made 78 appearances for the Catalan side but he had only scored three and assisted four in that time.

As a result, Barcelona decided to allow Gomes to leave them on a season-long loan.

Everton loan Gomes

It would be Everton who decided to bring the struggling midfielder to England this season.

Gomes did not get off to a great start with Everton.

The 25-year-old came to Everton with a muscle injury and as a result, missed Everton’s first eight league games this campaign.

However, after returning to full fitness, Gomes has started Everton’s last five league games.

Everton have won three, drawn one and lost one of those five games with Gomes impressing in each of them.

Marco Silva wants to keep Gomes

As a result, Everton boss Marco Silva is keen to sign Gomes on a permanent deal this summer.

Speaking after Everton’s win over Cardiff, a game were Gomes was particularly impressive, Silva stated:

“I think in the right moment we have to do something to achieve one player like Andre.

“You go there in the right moment. Andre is enjoying his time but we don’t want to put this pressure of a decision on him. It is early.

“When you make a loan, and not just Andre but Zouma as well, if you can do something tomorrow then you have to do it but football is not like that.”
