Back to the big time
Marcel Brands is aiming big with Everton and following his appointment today, the Dutchman has been speaking about his ambitions with the club.
The now-former PSV director of football had his move confirmed today after months of talks with the Merseyside club.
Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri was looking to shake up the club following an extremely disappointing season.
The club finished 8th in the Premier League despite spending around £15omillion to try and take them into the top six.
Though, that went terribly wrong and lead to a very lacklustre season which Everton fans are glad to see the back of.
Sam Allardyce was sacked today after he also failed to win the fans over.
Now, the club are looking big once again and Marcel Brands will not stop until they get there.
That is because he has claimed that the club must strive to be competing with the Premier League and competing for honours.
“It is a privilege to be joining Everton as Director of Football and I am incredibly excited to take on this challenge,” said Brands in a statement on the Everton website.
“The fantastic passion of the fans for their Club, the magnificent history of the Club over the years and the ambition and purpose we have as people tasked with driving the Club forward all mean that we need to be competing for honours against the Premier League elite.
“It is no straightforward challenge but this must be our motivation each and every day.”
Safe to say, that will be music to the Everton fans’ ears.
