Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic explains how they can beat Liverpool

Big ask

Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic was the saviour against Crystal Palace but the player knows that they must improve against Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho’s side were given a big scare against Roy Hodgson’s team on Monday evening when they needed an extremely late Matic strike for all three points.

The Serbian struck a sweet half-volley to beat Wayne Hennessey but they might need more than luck against Liverpool.

The Reds are in fine form and their attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino will pose a bigger threat than Palace.

Jurgen Klopp’s side has just come off the back of Champions League last-16 glory and are now targetting Manchester United.

Though, Matic has revealed how Man United can beat Liverpool and it’s pretty simple.

They have to play with the same character that they did against Crystal Palace but they have to have more quality than they did on Monday.

‘We have to do more if we want to win, as Liverpool is a team with great quality. We have to play better, but with the same character,’ Matic told the club’s website.

‘We’ll show the same character as we did (against Palace)… but we have to be honest… we have to play better, especially when you see our first half performance.

‘It is obviously great to win game by game and when you have a match against Liverpool coming up, a big derby, it’s important to go into that with a win,’ Serbia international Matic added.

Worse than Arsenal? Alexis Sanchez’s Man United nightmare

One player who Man United could do with on top form is Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean is really struggling to come good at Old Trafford but it could go deeper than the surface.

Chilean media is speculating that the player is having problems off the pitch too.
