Manchester United vs West Ham betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Manchester United vs West Ham prediction: Manchester United 2-1 West Ham

Manchester United may well have a huge night in Barcelona ahead but they can’t lose focus here.

As they’ve now slipped out the top 4, they desperately need the points.

Meanwhile, Manuel Pellegrini will be demanding a big performance from his West Ham side after two disappointing results.

Who will come out on top at Old Trafford?

Scott McTominay

Manchester United vs West Ham United: Who will win?

Manchester United have beaten West Ham 65 times in their history and are 2/5 to make that 66.

West Ham’s last win at Old Trafford was that famous day on the final day of the season in 2007 and they are 6/1 to change that here.

A draw, which would not be a good result for Ole Gunnar Solskjær, is 19/5.

Over 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Both teams to score is 4/6.

Manchester United to win and both teams to score is 13/8.

Marcus Rashford

Romelu Lukaku is Manchester United’s top scorer this season with 16 goals. He’s also scored 11 career goals against the Hammers and is 3/1 to score first and 19/20 to score anytime.

Marcus Rashford, as always, will be a threat. He’s 7/2 to score first and 5/4 to net anytime.

Marko Arnautović is enduring a barren run for West Ham at the moment. He’s 15/2 to score first and 5/2 to get his first goal of 2019.

Both Lukaku and Rashford to score is 7/2.

Both Arnautović and Hernández to score is 12/1.

Manchester United vs West Ham United: Match preview

Manchester United need wins and they need them now.

In midweek, they were narrowly beaten 1-0 at home by Barcelona in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg.

They’ll be at Camp Nou for the second leg on Tuesday but they can not look too far ahead.

In their last Premier League game, they were beaten 2-1 at Molineux by Wolverhampton Wanderers 11 days ago.

That’s now 4 defeats in 5!

That poor form has seen them drop down to sixth, two points behind Arsenal and three behind Tottenham.

This is surely a must win if they’re to finish in the top 4.

Can they deliver?

This could be the perfect time to play West Ham though.

On Monday night, they were toothless in attack in a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Prior to that, they’d been utterly abysmal in another 2-0 defeat, this time at home to Everton.

That’s now just 3 wins in 11 for the Hammers, all of which have come at home to sides below them.

They’re currently in 11th place so can Manuel Pellegrini motivate his squad to put in a big performance?

Manchester United team news vs West Ham United

Luke Shaw Manchester United

Despite this game’s importance, Ole Gunnar Solskjær is expected to make changes ahead of next week’s trip to Catalonia.

As always, David de Gea will be in goal.

They do have a major problem at full-back though.

Luke Shaw picked up his tenth booking of the season at Wolves and Ashley Young was sent off, so both are suspended.

Diogo Dalot will slot in at right back and there could be a rare outing for Marcos Rojo.

If he does play, it would be just his third start of the season and his first since December 12 in Valencia.

At centre-back, Phil Jones is expected to be rotated in.

Eric Bailey is unlikely to be fit.

In midfield, Scott McTominay’s outstanding performance in midweek should see him keep his place.

Andreas Pereira and Nemanja Matić could come in allowing Paul Pogba a rest.

Up front, Juan Mata could start.

Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial have both been struggling for fitness lately.

A Romelu Lukaku goal seems a likely event.

He’s scored 11 goals in 11 appearances against West Ham in his career; the most he’s scored against any single opponent.

Will this side be too good for their visitors from East London?

West Ham United team news vs Manchester United

As for West Ham, their performance in the second half at Chelsea was much better after changes were made.

Łukasz Fabiański has made more saves than anyone else in the Premier League this season (126).

Expect him to add to that here.

Fabián Balbuena made his first appearance for three months due to a knee injury on Monday and will keep his place.

Ryan Fredericks appears to now be first choice at right-back ahead of Pablo Zabaleta.

In midfield, they’re going to need big performances from Declan Rice and Mark Noble.

Pellegrini is expected to go attacking again with Manuel Lanzini as a ten.

There could be a change up front.

Former Manchester United player Javier Hernández offered nothing as a loan striker on Monday so he’ll drop out with Marko Arnautović pushed into a central role.

Can this side spring a surprise?
