Manchester United vs Tottenham 101 Great Goals prediction: Manchester United 1-3 Tottenham

Jose Mourinho returns to Old Trafford almost a year on from his sacking by Manchester United looking for his fourth win as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese manager has made an impressive start to life at Spurs winning his opening three games in charge.

Meanwhile, at Manchester United, not much has changed since his departure with the Red Devils continuing to struggle.

Following a 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have now won just two of their last nine league outings.

Premier League preview: Manchester United vs Tottenham

Mourinho has revitalised Tottenham since his arrival and has them back in the race for the top four.

Spurs are now just six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea who have shown signs of faltering.

Mourinho was handed a fortuitous start to life at Spurs with three relatively straightforward fixtures.

But now he faces his first major test as Spurs boss as he prepares his side to take on his former club.

Despite the Red Devils’ poor form, Solskjaer’s side will be desperate to end their former manager’s winning streak.

On the whole, Spurs have been worthy winners in their opening three games but clearly issues remain in defence.

The north Londoners have conceded six goals in three games and nearly blew a three-goal lead at home to Bournemouth.

Ole on the brink?

Solskjaer is on the brink of becoming the fifth Premier League manager to lose his job this season.

Mauricio Pochettino, Unai Emery, Javi Gracia and Quique Flores Sanchez have all been sacked by their clubs this term.

The Norwegian is now fighting to avoid the same fate with his side currently sat ninth and having won just two of their last nine league games.

During the week, United were embarrassed by FC Astana in the Europa League as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat in Kazakhstan.

Their misery was further compounded by Aston Villa as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home.

Manchester United team news vs Tottenham

Manchester United will remain without Paul Pogba for Wednesday’s clash.

The midfielder has started to train outside but is not ready to return to action yet.

However, both Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are in contention to face Spurs this week.

UPDATE: There are strong rumours – including from Sky Sports on Wednesday – that Anthony Martial will miss the game with a muscular problem.

The reports also claim that if Martial does miss out, Manchester United will play with a back three, as they did against Liverpool and started with versus Sheffield United.

Whilst that could mean Phil Jones starts the game, it is also possible that Axel Tuanzebe will play.

Tottenham team news vs Manchester United

Mourinho will remain without the quartet of Erik Lamela, Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm and Ben Davies.

Lamela’s season has once again been disrupted by injury, but he could return this weekend against Burnley.

Davies is set to be sidelined for a couple of months after an injury suffered against West Ham.
