Manchester United vs Southampton betting tips: Premier League preview & predictions

Man United vs Southampton 101 Great Goals prediction: Man United 3-0 Southampton

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Man United dream continued with a win over Crystal Palace in midweek and he will be expecting much of the same against Southampton.

Solskjær has instilled confidence and belief in his Manchester United team and there are not many in the squad who he hasn’t improved since taking over.

Romelu Lukaku is the latest example with the Belgian scoring two in the game against Crystal Palace.

Though, Solskjær and Man United must avoid a potential slip up in the form of Southampton this weekend.

The Saints are not having a great season but have impressed under Ralph Hasenhüttl at times.

Southampton have already completed one giant killing under their new boss when they beat Arsenal 3-2 back in December.

It’ll take a lot more to beat this Manchester United side, however.

Man United vs Southampton: Who will win?

It will come as little surprise as to which team are the favourite here.

Manchester United are heavy favourites, priced at 9/20 to win the game.

Southampton, meanwhile, are the outsiders at 11/2.

Safe to say, you’d be a mad man to bet on Southampton but it’s by no means a foregone conclusion.

A draw, meanwhile, is priced at 10/3.

A 3-0 Man United, as we predict, is priced at 10/1 which is a pretty solid price.

The goalscorers market is where we will likely have the most luck.

Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku are both priced at 9/2 to score first, followed by Paul Pogba at 5/1.

Manchester United youngsters Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong are even priced before any Southampton player at 9/1.

Charlie Austin, Nathan Redmond and Sam Gallagher are all priced at 10/1 to score first.

Man United vs Southampton match preview

What a few months it has been for Manchester United!

Everything turned toxic under Jose Mourinho, his position was simply no longer tenable but no one expected Manchester United to achieve much this season.

However, that has not been the case under Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

The Norwegian may have had a torrid time at Cardiff in his last Premier League stint but is proving to be a phenomenon at Old Trafford.

In charge of Man United, Solskjær has won 12 games, drawn two and only lost one.

That’s incredible for a team who looked simply devoid of confidence before he came in.

Paul Pogba is in the form of his life right now, Marcus Rashford is impressing again and even Romelu Lukaku is slowly starting to get back to his Everton days.

What you can expect from this Manchester United side against Southampton is free-flowing attacking football, just what fans wanted all along.

If they are on song like they have been for many weeks now, Southampton should have no chance.

Can the Saints take a big leap towards safety?

While Man United are flying, Southampton are everything but.

Despite an initial upturn in results and performances when Ralph Hasenhüttl came in, the Saints are starting to struggle again.

In their last five, Southampton have drawn with Crystal Palace and Burnley before being beaten by Cardiff.

That’s really not good enough for a side who are right in the thick of a relegation battle.

A loss against Arsenal was expected, despite Southampton’s heroics in the first fixture between the two sides.

Though, the positive news for Saints fans is that they are currently out of the relegation zone.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side beat Fulham in their midweek clash on Wednesday and that has lifted them just out of the bottom three.

While it may look like an impossible task, Southampton need to do all they can to try and get a point out of this clash.

Man United team news vs Southampton

Manchester United are in somewhat of an injury crisis at the moment.

The Red Devils lost several players to injury both during and after the game with Liverpool.

Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard were all withdrawn during that clash and missed the midweek game against Palace.

By the looks of things, none of them will be available this weekend either.

Anthony Martial, Nemanja Matic, Phil Jones, Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia should all also miss the game.

Marcus Rashford, however, could be available to start at the weekend.

The forward picked up an issue against Liverpool but came off the bench against Palace in midweek.

Though, after Romelu Lukaku impressed, there’s no need to rush him back into the team.

Southampton team news vs Man United

The Saints could have a trio of important players out for this clash.

Michael Obafemi will miss the remainder of the season after picking up a hamstring injury against Arsenal.

Key players Danny Ings and Mario Lemina are also said to be doubts for this game which would be a huge loss.
