Manchester United vs PSG betting tips: UEFA Champions League last 16 preview and predictions

Manchester United vs PSG prediction: Manchester United 2-1 PSG

A colossal Champions League clash at Old Trafford.

Manchester United, rejuvenated by Ole Gunnar Solskjær of course, come into this game full of confidence.

But their credentials will be sorely tested by the might of Paris Saint-Germain.

The hierarchy in the French capital demand success in this competition but will the Theatre of Dreams provide them with nightmares?

This game promises to be a magnificent spectacle.

Manchester United vs Paris Saint-Germain: Who will win?

Amazingly, Manchester United are favourites at 13/10 to win this first leg.

PSG are the outsiders at 19/10 to leave Old Trafford with a big advantage.

A draw is 13/5.

Les Parisiens are the top scorers in this season’s Champions League with 17 so Man United will do well to keep them out.

Over 2.5 goals is 4/6 with both teams to score 1/2.

Manchester United to win and both teams to score is 11/4.

Kylian Mbappe PSG

Marcus Rashford has looked a different player since the change of manager. He’s 5/1 to break the deadlock and 8/5 to net anytime.

Likewise, Anthony Martial got his eleventh of the season on Saturday. He’s 11/2 to score first and 17/10 to score in 90 minutes.

World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé has 22 goals to his name this season. He’s 4/1 to score first and 5/4 to add to his impressive tally.

Both Mbappé and Rashford to score is 11/2.

Both Martial and Rashford to score is 15/2.

Manchester United vs Paris Saint-Germain: Match preview

When the draw was made, PSG would have very much fancied their chances of swatting José Mourinho’s team aside.

Less so now.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has 10 wins and 1 draw to his name as Manchester United manager including Saturday’s comfortable 3-0 victory at Fulham.

The Red Devils were 11 points off fourth when he took over.

Now they’re in the top 4 for the first time since the opening day.

But their new found form will be sorely tested here by a European heavyweight.

Can they stand up to the challenge?

As for Paris Saint-Germain, they have not had it all their own way this season.

They started this month with a shock 2-1 defeat away to Olympique Lyonnais; their first Ligue 1 defeat for 9 months.

Nevertheless, they are 10 points clear of second placed Lille with 2 games in hand.

Their Champions League group stage campaign wasn’t entirely straight forward either.

A defeat at Anfield followed by back to back draws with Napoli left them on the brink of an embarrassing exit.

Nevertheless, a 2-1 win over Liverpool followed by a 4-1 win in Serbia over Crvena zvezda carried them through in top spot.

Thomas Tuchel’s three predecessors were all fired due to their failure to win this competition so the German is under massive pressure to deliver.

Will his big stars shine?

With almost a fully fit squad to choose from, Ole Gunnar Solskjær has some big decisions to make.

Not so in goal where David de Gea is looking to build on his good run of 4 clean sheets in 6 games.

Ashley Young is expected to come in for Diogo Dalot at right-back.

It remains to be seen who’ll be the centre-back pairing though.

Phil Jones started alongside Chris Smalling on Saturday but it’s Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelöf who’ve played the most under the new manager.

In midfield, Nemanja Matić and Ander Herrera will continue to provide the defensive protection.

They’ll hope to allow Paul Pogba to flourish ahead of them.

His two goals on Saturday mean he’s now scored 10 or more goals in a season for the first time in his career.

In the front 3, some big names will be left in reserve.

Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashord have all shone since Solskjær came in, scoring 12 goals combined in that time.

If they were to start as a trio, that would see both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sánchez, who both featured on Saturday, on the bench.

This Man United team can do no wrong right now but, if they were to win here, it would be the most impressive victory of the lot.

Paris Saint-Germain team news vs Manchester United

As for PSG, their preparation has been dominated by injuries.

41-year old Gianluigi Buffon will start in goal ahead of Alphonse Areola.

At right-back Thilo Kehrer is the first choice and would start even if the injured Thomas Meunier was available.

In midfield and attack, they’re riddled with absentees.

First though the good news.

Marco Verratti played just over half an hour on Saturday; his first appearance for nearly a month.

Due to the fact they have a startling lack on midfield options, the Italian will surely be risked even though he clearly isn’t 100% fit.

Marquinhos, a centre-back by trade, started all 6 group games in midfield.

However, Verratti will be alongside Leandro Paredes who joined from Zenit Saint Petersburg for €47 million last month.

The likes of Adrien Rabiot and Lassana Diarra have been completely frozen out for various reasons.

Further forward, two of their big hitters are out.

Neymar suffered a foot injury against Guingamp last month and will miss both legs.

Also, Edinson Cavani went off after injuring a tendon in his hip on Saturday so is sidelined.

Dani Alves, a right-back of course, may well come in further forward than normal.

On the other side, Ángel Di María would love to get a goal against his old club.

20-year old Kylian Mbappé, who usually comes in from the right, will play through the middle in Cavani’s absence.

Mbappe has scored 13 goals in his last 20 Champions League appearances.

Can this depleted, but still star studded, side burst the Manchester United bubble?
