Manchester United vs Manchester City betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Manchester United vs Manchester City prediction: Manchester United 0-3 Manchester City

A Manchester derby from Old Trafford of huge significance for both.

Manchester United were abysmal at the weekend as their wretched form continues.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær desperately needs a big performance from his players.

As for Manchester City, it’s a must win for them too.

If Pep Guardiola’s side win their 4 remaining Premier League games they will be champions.

If not, chances are they won’t be.

Everything is on the line for both.

Manchester United vs Manchester City: Who will win?

Manchester United have only won one league derby at Old Trafford since 2011 and are 5/1 to change that.

Manchester City won this fixture 3-1 in November and are odds on at 4/9 to repeat that.

A draw, which doesn’t suit anybody, is 18/5.

Over 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Both teams to score no is 6/5.

Manchester City to win and over 2.5 goals is 5/6.

Manchester City to win and both teams to score no is 7/4.

Sergio Aguero

Marcus Rashford scored the winner on his derby debut in 2016. He is 9/1 to score first and 14/5 to score anytime in this one.

Anthony Martial could also be a threat. He’s 17/2 to score first and also 14/5 to net anytime.

Sergio Agüero has 9 career goals against Manchester United. The Argentine forward is 16/5 to score first and 19/20 to add to that tally.

Raheem Sterling has never scored against Manchester United in 12 appearances. However, he’s 7/2 to score first and 11/10 to change that statistic.

Both Rashford and Martial to score is 14/1.

Both Agüero and Sterling to score is 7/2.

Both Agüero and Bernardo Silva to score is 7/1.

Manchester United vs Manchester City: Match preview

What a shambolic, disgraceful performance from Manchester United.

On Sunday, The Red Devils were annihilated 4-0 at Goodison Park by Everton.

That means they’ve now conceded 48 goals in the league this season, their worst record since 1978-79.

Also, they’ve now lost five successive away matches in all competitions for the first time since March 1981.

Overall, it’s now 6 defeats in 8; a miserable run of form.

That leaves them sixth in the table, adrift of the top 4.

With Chelsea to come on Sunday, this is the second part of a huge week for Manchester United.

If they play like they did on Sunday, they will lose this derby and be in the Europa League next season.

A big performance is needed.

Manchester City’s toughest test left?

As for Manchester City, they know what they have to do.

On Saturday, they narrowly beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Liverpool’s win in Wales a day later means Pep Guardiola’s side are back down to second.

Nevertheless, this is their game in hand and if they win all of their remaining games they will be champions.

No side has won more points in Premier League games between the top six this season than Manchester City who have an astonishing 22 from a possible 27.

Manchester United meanwhile have only won 6 from those big head to head matches.

Will there, as that stat may suggest, only be one winner?

Paul Pogba

After a diabolical performance at the weekend, what does Solskjær do?

Despite his poor form, David de Gea will remain in goal.

He only has 7 clean sheets in 34 Premier League appearances this season compared to 28 last season.

In defence, it’s set to be all change at full-back.

Luke Shaw is back from suspension and Ashley Young is set to be recalled.

Victor Lindelöf will move inside with Diogo Dalot and Phil Jones dropping out.

In midfield, Scott McTominay was a surprise omission on Sunday but his solid recent outings will surely earn him a start here.

Nemanja Matić and Paul Pogba were both dreadful in that game but both are likely to start ahead of the equally inconsistent Fred.

Up front, Romelu Lukaku is expected to be left in reserve.

They’re likely to revert to the trio of Rashford, Martial and Lingard which served them so well just a few months ago.

Alexis Sánchez will once again be on the bench.

Can this side cause, what shouldn’t be but what would be, a monumental upset?

Phil Foden

As for Manchester City, Guardiola has an array of options to choose from.

Goalkeeper Ederson has kept clean sheets in 50% of his league appearances this season.

In defence, John Stones is expected to keep his place alongside Aymeric Laporte.

Those two have only started 18 league games together.

But, 8 of those matches have been against other top 6 clubs.

They are Guardiola’s trusted pairing in big games.

At left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to get the nod over Fabian Delph and Benjamin Mendy.

In midfield, Kevin De Bruyne went off injured at the weekend; that could be his season over.

Fernandinho is likely to start for the first time in 4 games alongside İlkay Gündoğan.

Despite becoming the third youngest player to score in the Premier League for Man City on Saturday, Phil Foden is expected to be back on the bench.

Up front, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling have been Guardiola’s go-to men.

Sergio Agüero has scored 19 goals this season in the league but he’s hit the woodwork 6 times (more than anybody else).

Surely this Manchester City side will be too good for their neighbours, won’t they?
