Manchester United vs Chelsea betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Manchester United vs Chelsea prediction: Manchester United 0-1 Chelsea

Manchester United head into the game in catastrophic form, having lost seven of their last nine matches in all competitions.

Expect a low-scoring game on Sunday. Chelsea have failed to score in five of their last seven away matches in the Premier League, while United have only found the net twice in their last five.

Manchester United have only lost one of their last ten matches against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Manchester United vs Chelsea: Who will win?

Home advantage won’t count for much given United’s current form. The bookies are having a tough time separating the two sides. Both United and Chelsea are 17/10 to win. The draw is priced at 5/2.

Manchester United have failed to score a single goal in their last three matches. A Chelsea clean sheet is priced at 5/2.

Eden Hazard has been involved in 10 of Chelsea’s 23 away Premier League goals this season – twice as many as any other teammate. Hazard is 5/1 to open the scoring and 6/4 to score anytime.

Manchester United vs Chelsea Premier League match preview

Manchester United host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday in a match which will have massive implications on the Premier League’s top four race.

The Red Devils suffered a third straight defeat on Wednesday night as they were beaten 2-0 at home by rivals Manchester City. If it’s any consolation for United fans, the result means it is less likely that Liverpool will be winning their first Premier League title.

Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Burnley on Monday. The point was enough to move them back into the top four.

Sunday’s match will be the 54th Premier League meeting between the two sides. Chelsea have beaten United 18 times in the competition, while United have come out on top on 15 occasions

The two sides played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture in October. Antonio Rudiger opened the scoring before a second-half brace from Anthony Martial handed United the lead. Ross Barkley earned the Blues a point with a 96th-minute equaliser.

The sides also met in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February. Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba scored in United’s 2-0 win at the Bridge.

The Top Four Race

Chelsea’s top four fate is in their own hands again, thanks to Arsenal’s defeat at Wolves on Wednesday. Maurizio Sarri’s side come into this match 4th in the table on 67 points, one point above Arsenal and three above Manchester United.

If Chelsea fail to win on Saturday, the advantage would move back in Arsenal’s favour. The Gunners face a tricky away trip to Leicester on Sunday, earlier in the day.

Defeat for Manchester United would all but mathematically end their top four hopes. A win for United would move them level on points with Chelsea but the Blues have a significantly better goal difference.

Meanwhile, Tottenham remain favourites to finish third but they lost to West Ham on Saturday. This means a Chelsea win would bring them level on points with their London rivals.

Both sides have renewed hope for a top four finish and this could be further heightened should Arsenal fail to win at Leicester on Sunday, in the earliest kick-off of the three Premier League matches.

Manchester United team news vs Chelsea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that he has no intention of dropping David de Gea. The Spanish goalkeeper has made costly errors in each of United’s last three matches.

Ander Herrera comes back into contention after recovering from a hamstring strain. Scott McTominay faced a fitness test on Friday to see if he could be involved.

Doubts remain over the fitness of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly. Matteo Darmian will likely drop to the bench after failing to impress in his first Premier League start since December against Manchester City.

Romelu Lukaku made a late appearance off the bench, while Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic were unused substitutes against City. All three are former Chelsea players and will be itching to face their old club.

Anthony Martial and Diogo Dalot will hoping to reclaim a spot in United’s starting eleven.

Antonio Valencia remains sidelined with a muscle injury

Chelsea team news vs Manchester United

Maurizio Sarri has used Eden Hazard in a false-nine role in a number of top six clashes this season and may do so again on Sunday at the expense of Gonzalo Higuain.

Marcos Alonso has returned to training but remains a fitness doubt for the Blues.

Willian comes back into contention after recovering from a knock. The Brazilian should be included in the match-day sqaud.

Antonio Rudiger is available following a knee injury and is expected to replace Andreas Christensen in the starting eleven.

A late decision will be made on N’Golo Kante. The World Cup winner was forced off at half-time on Monday night with a rib injury. Matteo Kovacic will start if Kante fails to recover in time.

Ross Barkley was an unused substitute against Burnley and will be hoping to benefit from any rotation.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has undergone surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon which will sideline the youngster for at least three months.

Danny Drinkwater has failed to make a single Premier League appearance this season so it’s highly unlikely he’ll be facing his former club.
