Manchester United vs Chelsea betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Man United vs Chelsea prediction: Man United 1-1 Chelsea

The most fascinating game of the opening weekend for sure.

Two of the Premier League’s “top six” go head to head for the first time in 2019/20.

However, this particular match is made far me intriguing by the fact both are now managed by club icons.

This game will show just where these two are right now so who will come out on top at Old Trafford?

Manchester United vs Chelsea: Who will win?

This is a tough one to call.

Manchester United are the favourites though at 23/20 to begin with a win.

Chelsea are the underdogs at 12/5 to win Frank Lampard’s first game in charge.

Under 2.5 goals is 4/5.

Although, both teams to score is 8/11.

Draw and both teams to score is 10/3.

Marcus Rashford is now very much the first choice striker at Old Trafford. He is 9/2 to score first and 7/4 to score anytime.

Paul Pogba was Manchester United’s top scorer last season. He is 6/1 to score first and 9/4 to net anytime.

Tammy Abraham is set to lead the line for Chelsea this season. He is 11/2 to score first and 11/5 to net anytime.

Christian Pulisic will make his debut. The USA international is 17/2 to break the deadlock and 16/5 to mark his first Chelsea appearance with a goal.

Both Pogba and Rashford to score is 17/2.

Both Jesse Lingard and Rashford to score is 12/1.

Both Abraham and Barkley to score is 13/1.

Both Pulisic and Pedro to score is 16/1.

What a weird season that was for Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær could not have started any better after being appointed on December 19th.

He won his first six Premier League games and actually amassed 32 points from his first 12 league matches.

However, the Red Devils picked up just eight points from their final nine league games and eventually finished sixth.

On the final day of last season, they were beaten 2-0 by already relegated Cardiff City at Old Trafford.

It is vital that Manchester United start the season well otherwise Ole Gunnar Solskjær might not be there much longer.

Will Frank Lampard win his first game in charge of Chelsea?

As for Chelsea, it’s a new era for them.

Maurizio Sarri has left to take over at Juventus and Frank Lampard is his successor.

Lampard is Chelsea’s leading goalscorer of all time but is under pressure to do well as manager.

The Blues finished third, won the UEFA Europa League and reached the Carabao Cup Final last season.

However, their registration ban means they can not sign any new players which makes expectations a bit more realistic.

Nevertheless, they’ll be desperate to get off to a good start so can they do just that in a big game?

Not too much has changed at Old Trafford over the summer.

Just three players have come in with three players leaving the club.

David de Gea is still the number one goalkeeper.

There will be a couple of changes to the defence in front of him though.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has joined from Crystal Palace for £50 million to replace Antonio Valencia who’s gone to L.D.U. Quito.

At centre-back, Harry Maguire finally signed for £80 million from Leicester on Monday.

Both are expected to start this one.

In midfield, Ander Herrera left on a free transfer to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite this, no midfielders have arrived.

Nemanja Matić will start against his old side alongside Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba in midfield.

The other options are Fred and Andreas Pereira.

Further forward, Dan James is the other new signing but he is expected to be on the bench.

Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are expected to be the first choice front three.

Romelu Lukaku joined Internazionale on Thursday but, no replacement has been bought.

Thus, the remaining attacking options are Juan Mata and Mason Greenwood.

Alexis Sánchez is injured.

Will Manchester United get off to a winning start?

Chelsea team news vs Manchester United

As for Chelsea, despite the fact they could not sign anyone, a lot has changed since the Europa League Final in Azerbaijan.

Obviously, there’s been a managerial change but there have been changes within the playing squad too.

Kepa Arrizabalaga does remain the number one goalkeeper.

In defence, David Luiz left the club on Thursday but that’s only because Lampard believes he has better options at centre-back.

Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma, the latter was on loan at Everton last season, are expected to be the first choice pairing.

Antonio Rüdiger is still recovering from a knee injury but Fikayo Tomori, who was with Lampard at Derby last year, is the back-up at the moment.

Emerson Palmieri appears to be the first choice left-back ahead of Marcos Alonso.

Captain César Azpilicueta is the first choice right-back with another returning loanee Reece James the reserve.

In midfield, Mateo Kovačić made his loan deal from Real Madrid permanent in June and is likely to line-up alongside N’Golo Kanté in front of the defence.

They have a plethora of midfield options.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is still out after rupturing his achilles tendon but Mason Mount is very much in the manager’s plans.

However, Ross Barkley is expected to start this one.

Out-wide, Eden Hazard has joined Real Madrid for €100 million so a huge void has to be filled.

Christian Pulisic joined from Borussia Dortmund for €64 million in January, before returning on loan, but he will make his debut at Old Trafford.

Pedro is expected to be on the other wing after Willian’s Copa América commitments in the summer.

Up front, the options are Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham.

It is not clear who is the first choice centre-forward but the latter is expected to get the nod for this one.

Will Frank Lampard’s first game as Chelsea manager result in a win?
