Manchester United vs Cardiff Premier League match preview

Manchester United host relegated Cardiff City at Old Trafford on the final day of the Premier League season.

United fans will be glad to see the end of what has been another disappointing campaign.

United’s top four hopes were officially ended last weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Huddersfield, extending their winless streak to six. Scott McTominay gave United an early lead but the Red Devils conceded in the second half.

The draw leaves United in sixth place – the same position they were in when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge in December. United will finish above Arsenal in fifth if they better the Gunners’ result against Burnley.

Cardiff were officially relegated last weekend following a 2-3 home defeat to Crystal Palace. Bobby Reid scored late on but it wasn’t enough for the Welsh side who will be back in the Championship next season.

Manchester United have won two and drawn one of their three matches against Cardiff in the Premier League. United’s last league defeat to Cardiff was back in 1960.

United ran out 5-1 winners at the Cardiff City Stadium in the reverse fixture in December. Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard (2) were on target for United. Victor Camarasa scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot for Cardiff.

Cardiff’s Player’s Player of the Season Victor Camarasa was forced off early on against Crystal Palace and is likely to miss out.

Josh Murphy returned to Warnock’s sqaud last weekend following his comments that the winger had not been training well.
