Manchester United vs Burnley betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Manchester United vs Burnley prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Burnley

Manchester United will be keen to move on from Sunday’s defeat at their old rivals, but injuries to key players will make things tricky for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Burnley will be looking to build on their surprise win over Leicester on Sunday.

The Clarets have earned a draw on their last three visits to Old Trafford in all competitions.

Manchester United vs Burnley: Who will win?

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League matches at home. Manchester United are 4/11 favourites to win the match while a Burnley win is priced at 8/1. The draw can be backed at 15/4.

Five of the last six league games at the Theatre of Dreams have featured at least three goals. Bet on over 2.5 goals in the match at 4/5.

Mason Greenwood netted in his previous Premier League appearance at Old Trafford, taking his tally for the season to nine. Greenwood is 4/1 to open the scoring and 6/5 to score anytime.

Manchester United vs Burnley Premier League match preview

Manchester United host Burnley at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Burnley’s four-match losing streak in the Premier League came to a surprise end on Sunday as they beat third-placed Leicester at Turf Moor. Harvey Barnes gave Leicester a half-time lead but second-half goals from Chris Wood and Ashley Westwood earned Sean Dyche’s side three valuable points.

The win sees Burnley move up to 14th in the table, five clear of the relegation zone.

Manchester United remain fifth – five points outside the top four – following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at league leaders Liverpool. As Solskjaer pointed out, his side performed better at Anfield this time around than they did last season, but they were still nowhere near a match for Liverpool.

United have won five and drawn four of their last nine home league games. Only three teams have picked up more points at home than United, who also boast the joint-second best home defensive record. Burnley have only won twice on the road this season.

These two sides have met on 11 previous occasions in the Premier League. Burnley’s lone Premier League victory over United came at Turf Moor. The Clarets did manage a point following a 2-2 draw in last season’s corresponding fixture at Old Trafford.

United were comfortable 2-0 winners when the sides met in the reverse fixture at Turf Moor less than a month ago. Anthony Martial opened the scoring late in the first half. Marcus Rashford secured the three points in second-half stoppage time.

Manchester United team news vs Burnley

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Marcus Rashford will be out for at least six weeks with a lower back injury.

Rashford joins midfielders Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay on the sidelines.

Defenders Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe are also still injured, while Timothy Fosu-Mensah lacks match fitness.

Luke Shaw is another doubt with a calf muscle problem, so Brandon Williams should continue at left-back following the departure of Ashley Young to Inter Milan.

Victor Lindelof is another defender doubtful for this match after missing training on Tuesday due to illness.

Mason Greenwood and Juan Mata were both used off the bench at Anfield and could return to the starting eleven.

Jesse Lingard, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones were unused substitutes on Sunday and will be hoping for some minutes if Solskjaer opts for further rotation.

Burnley team news vs Manchester United

Sean Dyche could name the side which beat Leicester.

Wednesday night will come too soon for Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who missed Sunday’s win with a hamstring injury.

Ashley Barnes has had an operation for a groin injury and will be sidelined for around a month.

Burnley have four former Manchester United youth players on their books in Dwight McNeil, Robbie Brady, Phil Bardsley and Jimmy Dunne. Of the four, Bardsley is the only one to have made a Premier League appearance for the Red Devils.
