Only a few hours removed from the news that Paul Pogba has been stripped off Manchester United’s captaincy, things got a lot worse for the Red Devils.
Despite Juan Mata giving them the lead after three minutes, United came crashing out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Derby.
Phil Jones missed penalty meant that Frank Lampard’s side left with an 8-7 penalties victory.
Another evening at Old Trafford to forget for Jose Mourinho, his position will certainly be under more scrutiny.
Suffering their fifth straight penalties defeat on the bounce, United fans do appear to be taking one positive away.
Picking up an assist on his home debut, Diogo Dalot couldn’t have made a better first impression.

Dalot’s impressive start
After impressing in United’s 3-0 win over Young Boys, many were excited to see the 19-year-old on home soil.
The Portugal U-21 international moved to Old Trafford from Porto for £19million over the summer.
Upon his arrival, Mourinho labeled United’s new recruit the best young full-back in Europe.
“In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe,”
“He is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club.
“He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.”
The young right-back put in a delicious ball for Marouane Fellaini’s equalizer in extra-time tonight.
Quickly gaining a long list of admirers, Dalot also confidently dispatched of his sudden death penalty.
Dalot to replace Antonio Valencia?
One man who has taken a large brunt of United’s difficult start to the season is Antonio Valencia.
Now almost universally used as a right-back by Mourinho, many feel the club captain is not the best man suited for the role.
After tonight’s performance, it seems United fans want Dalot brought in immediately.
I would love to see Dalot start in the Premier League and become our #1 RB but Mourinho would never drop Valencia.

Dalot doing something Valencia wishes he could do.

That’s what happens when you play actual full backs who can cross like Dalot and not a one dimensional left wooden peg leg like Valencia.
