Thomas Lemar

Manchester United set sights on long-term Arsenal target

According to a report from the Daily Record this afternoon, Manchester United are weighing up a move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

Lemar enjoyed a stellar campaign with the principality outfit last season, setting Ligue 1 and the Champions League ablaze with his combination of blistering pace and pinpoint delivery.

As has been common knowledge for several months now, Arsene Wenger and Arsenal are extremely keen on bringing the French international to the Emirates this summer, though the Gunners have been met with stubborn resistance from the Monaco board to this point.

New suitor

Along with Arsenal, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur have both also been linked with moves for Lemar, though reports emanating from England this afternoon suggest that a new suitor has entered the fray for the talented youngster.

Manchester United are known to be on the lookout for a wide-man this summer, with the club having failed in their repeated attempts to coax Croatian international Ivan Perisic away from Inter Milan.

And, according to the Daily Record, the Red Devils have now switch their attentions to Lemar.

The board at Old Trafford see Lemar as a far more valuable addition than Perisic, due to both his age and potential, though they are aware that Monaco will demand at least 60 million Euro for their talented starlet.

Nevertheless, a bid on the part of the Premier League giants is said to be in the offing, with Jose Mourinho keen to add the final missing piece to his squad ahead of an assault on the Premier League.
