As per a report from Spanish outlet MundoDeportivo (via ESPN) this evening, Premier League giants Manchester United are considering a summer offer for Barcelona defender Jordi Alba.
Alba, a 28-year-old left-back, has been at the Camp Nou for 5 years now, having joined the club from Valencia in 2012.
Having started out his spell in Catalunya in scintillating fashion, culminating in many viewing the Spaniard as the world’s finest left-full, the form of Alba dropped rather severely last year, with the once-untouchable star struggling to hold down a regular starting spot throughout the campaign.
Red Devils interest
As a result, Manchester United have seemingly identified the experienced defender as an ideal, albeit slightly unrealistic target this summer.
United boss Jose Mourinho is said to be a keen admirer of the talents of Alba, and, with Luke Shaw struggling for form and fitness and Matteo Darmian seemingly intent on departing Old Trafford, the Portuguese tactician may well be forced into the market for left-sided defensive reinforcements over the coming months.
If Mourinho and co. do eventually present an offer to Barca for Alba, it seems highly unlikely that the Catalan side would consider a sale, with recently-appointed manager Ernesto Valverde reportedly keen to keep the technically-gifted defender at the club for the foreseeable future.
