Manchester United hierarchy don’t value FA Cup alone as success, judging by celebration plans

Manchester United take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final tomorrow, as they seek to salvage something from their season.

After crashing out of the Champions League group stages, and then faltering in the Europa League last 16, United need to lift the FA Cup tomorrow to put some gloss on their season.

Their title charge was non-existent, as they finished in lowly 5th position, which means they miss out on the Champions League for next season.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, the FA Cup was viewed as a compliment to winning the league, as Fergie’s teams won several league and cup doubles.

But merely winning the FA Cup is not the stuff of legends for a club like United, and that’s clearly how the hierarchy sees it.

If they win the cup tomorrow, the club have no plans to host an open-top bus parade around the city of Manchester.
