Manchester United are the latest club to register an interest in Borussia Dortmund’s in-demand central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, according to German outlet Bild.
Despite having secured a deal for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof on Saturday, the German publication has suggested that Jose Mourinho may not be done adding to his United backline for next season.
Sokratis, a 73-time capped Greek international, enjoyed an exceptional season at the Westfalenstadion following the departure of Mats Hummels for Bayern Munich.
His hard-nosed, take-no-prisoners attitude has won him many admirers around Europe, with Reds boss Mourinho said to be firmly among them.
However, a move for the Dortmund stopper will be far from straight-forward, with both Arsenal and Chelsea having been credited with an interest in Sokratis in recent days.
In addition, the Bundesliga side are said to be desperate to hold onto their star defender, with fellow centre-half Neven Subotic reportedly closing in on a BVB exit.
