Manchester United have handed Andreas Pereira a 12-month contract extension, according to the Evening Standard.
The 23-year-old’s contract was set to expire this summer but the Red Devils have moved to avoid losing him for free.
The club have handed him the opportunity to finally establish himself at Old Trafford with the view to offering him a longer deal.
Pereira handed contract extension at Old Trafford
Pereira has impressed at United over recent weeks scoring against Southampton and then helping the club beat Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian has been handed the opportunity to prove his worth until the end of the season, whilst United consider the possibility of selling him.
He is likely to then face fresh competition for a place in the team with the Red Devils set to bolster their midfield options in the summer.
Speaking about finding the player’s best position, Solskjaer said:
“He has gone through the academy, he has loads of energy and drive.
“Maybe we found a better position for him. He is more of a No8 or 10 than a six.
“Young kids when they get criticism, there is nothing better than seeing them grab their chance.”
