Manchester United confirm managerial plans following Solskjaer dismissal

Manchester United sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

In perhaps the least surprising news of the day, Manchester United have officially sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday morning.

The Norwegian leaves the club after a pretty humiliating defeat at the hands of relegation-threatened Watford on Saturday.

The Watford loss, though, was just the tip of the iceberg, with Manchester United already a full 12 points off 1st place in the Premier League, out of the League Cup and putting in some less than convincing displays in the Champions League,

When confirming Ole’s, sacking United released a statement:

Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager.

Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.

Manchester United confirm managerial plans

Within the statement, Manchester United would confirm their managerial plans post-Solskjaer.

And, in truth, it is hard to see United fans being too happy with the news.

As per the official statement from Man United, Michael Carrick will now take charge of the side whilst the club looks for an interim manager till the end of the season:

Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

Given it has been obvious for some time that Solskjaer needed to go, the fact Man United do not have a permanent manager lined up and will seemingly not be appointing one until the summer once again shows some poor planning at board level.
