Manchester United cautious of entering Erling Haaland transfer talks after difficulties over Jadon Sancho last summer

Proceed with Caution

Writing in his Monday column in the Athletic today, David Ornstein has reported that Manchester United will be cautious entering any potential negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland after spending two and a half months trying to arrange a lower fee for Jadon Sancho last summer.

Laurie Whitwell, also contributing to the Athletic, suggests that United Execs will be urged to remove themselves from the race quickly if costs seem too high. They do not want to break their wage structure.

The club will consider other striking options should they be unsuccessful in striking a deal for the Norwegian sensation and they are fully aware of the sums involved in brining Haaland in, not just for Dortmund and the player’s wages, but also payments to agents Mino Raiola and the players father.

Other Options

Other targets have also been suggested with major names throughout.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane is set to be high on the list, but United are also aware that he won’t come cheap and that Daniel Levy may be unwilling to send to another Premier League team.

The club may also look at Jadon Sancho again, but the price would have to be less than what it was last summer to pursue him.

Edinson Cavani is also yet to declare if he is to stay or go, but after scoring twice against Spurs last night, the club may be keen to retain his services.
