Manchester United agree Odion Ighalo loan extension

Odion Ighalo agrees to stay at Man United

Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath has reported on Monday that Man United have finally settled their issues surrounding striker Odion Ighalo.

Odion Ighalo has been on loan at Man United from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua. However, that loan agreement ended on Sunday night.

While there’s yet to be official confirmation from either Man United or Shanghai Shenhua, it’s now being reported that “Odion Ighalo has agreed extension of loan with (Man United) until end of January 2021.”

Ighalo’s agent admitted a deal was ‘close’

On Sunday, reporter Jonas Giæver spoke to Ighalo’s agent, Atta Aneke, who confirmed that a deal was close:

We are nearing an agreement with Manchester United on an extended loan.

The agreement will mean that Ighalo will remain with them until January 2021.

Manchester United’s attacking options

Ighalo, 30, has scored four goals in eight games since arriving at Old Trafford.

The Nigerian striker was signed when Marcus Rashford was out with a long-term back injury.

However, Rashford is now back in training and available for selection when the league restarts on June 17.

Unless something changes, fans may expect that Rashford will start in United’s attack alongside Anthony Martial and Daniel James, leaving Ighalo on the bench with Mason Greenwood.
