Jones brands Man United a laughing stock
After Manchester United finished second in the Premier League last season, you would have expected them to be in and around the title picture again this campaign.
However, Manchester United had an awful start to the 2018/19 season.
United would suffer several humiliating loses, including a 3-2 defeat vs Brighton.
They would also have one of the worst defences outside of the bottom five and looked very unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.
This would eventually lead to Jose Mourinho being sacked in December of 2018.
Speaking in a recent interview, Phil Jones has branded United’s first half of the season under Mourinho a ‘laughing stock’:
“Everyone’s got to take us seriously now.
“We might have been a bit of a laughing stock at the beginning of the season but we’re certainly not now.
“It was tough for everyone involved.
“The club, the supporters, everyone. But it’s about becoming stronger and seeing that through.
“ I’ve said it in the past: we’ve not achieved anything yet, we’re under no illusions but we’re heading in the right direction.” As quoted by ESPN.
Man United’s impressive turnaround
Given the dismal start to the season they had, United’s turnaround under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been superb.
Manchester United have now gone 11 games unbeaten since Solskjaer took charge, winning 10 of those games.
Their defence has also tightened up and after beating Fulham 3-0 this past weekend, they have moved into the top four for the first time since the opening weekend of the season.
