Manchester City vs Wolves betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Manchester City vs Wolves prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Wolves

Premier League clean sheets have been hard to come by for Manchester City of late but the pressure is on them to claim all three points on Monday night.

City have the best home record in the league this season, winning 10 of their 11 matches at the Etihad. They have also scored at least 10 more goals than any other side at home.

Wolves will be buoyed by recent wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, but a challenging trip to the Etihad may be too tall an order for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Manchester City vs Wolves: Who will win?

Man City are 2/11 favourites to win the match while Wolves are 16/1. The draw is priced at 7/1.

Surprisingly, City have failed to keep a shut-out in any of their last six Premier League matches at the Etihad. Back both teams to score at 11/10.

Ten of the eleven matches City have played at home this season have featured 3 or more goals. Bet on over 2.5 goals at 1/2.

Manchester City vs Wolves Premier League match preview

Manchester City host Wolves at the Etihad on Monday night.

City looked to have turned a corner after back-to-back defeats in December threatened to derail City’s title hopes. Since then, City have won both their Premier League matches, including a crucial 2-1 win over league leaders Liverpool.

The Reds’ narrow 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday puts the pressure right back on City, however. A win for City on Monday night would restore the gap at the top of the table to four points.

Wolves won four league matches in December, including a 3-1 win at Spurs, but began their 2019 with a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace. West Ham’s win over Arsenal on Saturday saw Wolves drop to 10th ahead of Monday’s match.

Newly-promoted Wolves held champions Manchester City to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at Molineux in August to provide one of the early shocks of the 2018/19 campaign. Willy Boly opened the scoring for Wolves before Aymeric Laporte equalised for the visitors.

Wolves and City have met nine times in the Premier League with City winning five of those matches to Wolves’ two. Wolves have never beaten City away in the competition.

Cup Delights

Both sides have enjoyed successful cup ties in the new year.

Wolves knocked Liverpool out the FA Cup third round last week. Raul Jimenez and Ruben Nevez both netted in a memorable 2-1 win, albeit against a heavily rotated Reds side.

Manchester City have scored 16 goals in their last two matches. Guardiola’s side shipped seven past Rotherham in the FA Cup before thrashing League One outfit Burton Albion 9-0 in their League Cup semi-final first leg tie.

Gabriel Jesus scored five goals across those two matches and is still unlikely to start on Monday.

Manchester City team news vs Wolves

Benjamin Mendy has stepped up his recovery from a long-term knee injury and is two to three weeks away from a return.

Sergio Aguero is available after missing out against Burton through illness.

A number of key players have been rested over City’s last two cup matches and should return to the starting eleven.

Kyle Walker and Danilo will battle it out for a spot at right back.

An appearance for David Silva would see him break the record for most Premier League appearances by a Manchester City player (267).

Vincent Kompany faces a late fitness test but is expected to miss out with a muscular injury.

Back-up goalkeeper Claudio Bravo remains sidelined.

Wolves team news vs Manchester City

Nuno Espirito Santo has no injury concerns ahead of Monday night’s game.

Diogo Jota and Adama Traore have both shaken off hamstring niggles and are available. Traore was a member of Barcelona’s La Masia academy when Pep Guardiola was still manager at the club.

Romain Saiss has recovered from a small knee problem and could start in midfield.

Santo may opt for experience in the form of Joao Moutinho alongside Ruben Neves.
