Manchester City vs Watford betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Manchester City vs Watford prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Watford

Despite reclaiming their spot at the top of the Premier League, City have a looked unconvincing in recent matches.

Pep Guardiola’s side have a number of injuries to contend with, which will give Watford cause for optimism.

Watford’s away record this season is better than the likes of Arsenal and Wolves, although Sunday’s task is likely to be their biggest yet.

Manchester City vs Watford: Who will win?

City are massive favourites at 1/7 while a Watford win is priced at 16/1. The draw can be backed at 13/2.

City have won each of their last eight home games, conceding just two goals in that period while averaging over five goals scored per match. City to win with a -2 handicap is 1/1.

Sergio Aguero is in superb form at the moment. Aguero is 13/5 to open the scoring and 1/2 to score anytime.

Manchester City vs Watford Premier League match preview

Premier League leaders Manchester City host Watford at the Etihad on Saturday evening.

Troy Deeney and Andre Gray were both on target in Watford’s 2-1 win over Leicester last weekend. Watford remain eighth in the table, level with Wolves on 43 points.

Watford have won three of their last four in the Premier League, which is as many as they had won in their previous 15.

City finally moved back above Liverpool following last weekend’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth. Riyad Mahrez scored after coming on as a substitute for the injured Kevin De Bruyne.

The victory is City’s second consecutive narrow 1-0 win.

A win for Pep Guardiola’s would extend their winning run to nine matches in all competitions.

City have won at least four more points from home matches than any other side in the league. They have scored 50 goals in their 15 league games at the Etihad.

City have faced Watford nine times in the Premier League and have never lost to the Hornets, winning seven and drawing two.

City won the reverse fixture 21 in December at Vicarage Road. Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez both found the net for City before Abdoulaye Doucoure scored a late consolation.

Manchester City team news vs Watford

City’s squad depth is set to be put to the test as they will be without a number of key players on Saturday.

Kevin De Bruyne is set for another spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.

Vincent Kompany could partner Nicolas Otamendi as central defenders John Stones and Amyeric Laporte are sidelined with muscular injuries.

Laporte has been a mainstay in the City defence this season but was spotted in training this week. The French defender may be held back for the Champions League second leg with Schalke.

Fernandinho is also injured and is targeting a return after the upcoming international break. The Brazilian’s absence could see Ilkay Gundogan start in the deepest midfield role.

Fabian Delph has returned to training following an ankle injury but remains a doubt.

With absentees a-plenty, one of Leroy Sane or Riyad Mahrez could come into the side.

Guardiola may have one eye on City’s Champions League round of 16 second leg match against Schalke on Tuesday.

Benjamin Mendy was a long-term absentee but was on the bench at Bournemouth.

Watford team news vs Manchester City

Gracia confirmed that he has a fully-fit squad to choose from, although it’s unlikely the Spaniard will make too many – if any – changes from last weekend’s win.

“Today is a good day as I can tell you all my players are available for the next game,” he said.

The news means that Kiko Femenia comes back into contention after missing out against Leicester through illness.

Andre Gray’s 90th-minute winner last time out will put him into consideration for a starting berth.

Miguel Britos could feature in the matchday 18 after returning to training.
