Man City vs Man United prediction: Man City 3-0 Man United

Manchester City in complete control after a demolition derby in the first leg.

22 days ago, the Citizens rushed into a three goal first half lead over at Old Trafford.

Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and an own goal from Andreas Pereira doing the damage.

In the second half, Marcus Rashford did pull one back for Man United to give them the tiniest bit of hope.

Even so, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side face a mountain to climb.

They did win at the Etihad just last month but will need to pull of an almighty comeback to leave victorious this time.

Manchester City vs Manchester United: Who will win?

Unsurprisingly, Manchester City are overwhelming favourites to win this match at 1/3.

Manchester United are 7/1 to win at the Etihad and even that might not be enough.

A draw, which would see the Citizens safely through, is 9/2.

Over 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Manchester City to win and over 2.5 goals is 4/6.

Pep Guardiola’s team are 1/200 to qualify; Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side are 20/1 to salvage this tie.

Are Manchester City set for another cup final appearance?

After the first leg, to say they are in a commanding position is an understatement.

However, that is just one of many big wins the Premier League champions have racked up in recent matches.

Last time out in the Premier League, Sergio Agüero scored the only goal of the game as they narrowly beat Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

That means they have taken 19 points from their eight league matches since losing to Man United on 7 December, scoring 21 goals in that time.

Nevertheless, they are 16 points behind runaway league leaders Liverpool who have a game in hand which is at West Ham also on Wednesday.

So, this adds extra importance to retaining their cups.

On Sunday they could hardly have asked for an easier assignment at home to Fulham in the FA Cup.

Cottagers’ centre-back Tim Ream was sent off as early as the sixth minute for hauling down Gabriel Jesus.

İlkay Gündoğan scored the resulting penalty.

Bernardo Silva made it 2-0 shortly after before two quick-fire second half goals from Jesus sealed a 4-0 success.

That see the holders through to round five.

In this competition, they’ve overcome Preston North End, Southampton and Oxford United, scoring three each time.

Three was also the amount they racked up at Old Trafford in the first leg meaning they should see the job through.

Manchester City are looking to win the Carabao Cup for a third straight season.

In fact, they have won their last 16 matches in this competition, last losing one 1190 days ago.

Although, that was to Manchester United.

Nevertheless, Pep Guardiola’s side should easily book their place back at Wembley.

Can Manchester United turn this tie around?

Manchester United meanwhile make the short 4.4 mile journey east not in great form.

That first leg defeat is one of five losses they have had to endure since 22 December.

That includes back to back losses in the Premier League.

Most recently, seven days ago, Burnley won at Old Trafford for the first time in 58 years, leaving comfortable 2-0 victors.

That followed other 2-0 defeats at Liverpool, Arsenal and Watford all in their last seven league outings.

Despite all of this, the Red Devils, somehow, remain fifth in the table, six points outside the Champions League positions.

They too though enjoyed a very easy FA Cup fourth round win on Sunday; 6-0 at Prenton Park against Tranmere Rovers.

Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood all netting in their biggest win since beating Arsenal 8-2, 3076 days ago.

On Saturday, they host seventh placed Wolverhampton Wanderers in a pivotal Premier League clash.

First though, can they pull off mission impossible?

Will it be Manchester United heading to Wembley for the Carabao Cup Final?

Despite Tottenham away to come on Sunday, Pep Guardiola will name a reasonably strong side to finish the job here.

First choice goalkeeper Ederson is expected to be rested with Claudio Bravo keeping his place from the weekend.

20 of Bravo’s 27 appearances since the start of the 2017/18 season have come in cup competitions.

In defence, João Cancelo could keep his place over Kyle Walker at right-back.

On the other side, Oleksandr Zinchenko is likely to return at Angeliño’s expense with Benjamin Mendy rested.

In the middle, Aymeric Laporte made his long awaited return at Bramall Lane last midweek.

The Frenchman will be saved for the weekend though so young Spaniard Eric García could be given another opportunity.

John Stones could come in alongside him with Nicolás Otamendi rotated out.

In midfield, İlkay Gündoğan operated in the anchor role on Sunday but Rodri could return for this match.

Further forward, Phil Foden is highly likely to get another start.

Bernardo Silva will keep his place but David Silva will be rested.

This’ll allow Raheem Sterling to return with Riyad Mahrez on the other side.

Kevin De Bruyne will be protected with the weekend in mind.

Up front, Gabriel Jesus has started the last two matches.

Despite the fact the Brazilian bagged a late brace against Fulham, Sergio Agüero is likely to be rotated back in.

Will this side finish the job and take Man City back to Wembley?

As for Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men, they have very limited options so it’ll be largely same again.

Sergio Romero has started all three of his month’s FA Cup ties but, just as he did in the first leg, David de Gea is likely to keep goal for this one.

In defence, they went with a back five at the weekend but in a game they need to win big surely that’ll not be the case here.

Diogo Dalot’s first goal for the club on Sunday will not keep him in the side with Aaron Wan-Bissaka returning at right-back.

Likewise, on the other side, Brandon Williams will return in place of Luke Shaw.

At centre-back, Phil Jones was another scorer at Tranmere but it’ll be the usual partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf for this one.

In midfield, there’s still no Paul Pogba or Scott McTominay.

So, Nemanja Matić will keep his place with Fred displacing fellow Brazilian Andreas Pereira.

They could sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP before Friday’s deadline but that deal is looking increasingly unlikely.

Further forward, Jesee Lingard scored his first goal for one year and one day last time out.

However, he is expected to be back on the bench with Dan James and Juan Mata returning.

Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial will make up the attack with Marcus Rashford ruled out until April.

Can this side overturn a 3-1 deficit?

That seems unlikely.
