Manchester City vs Cardiff betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Manchester City vs Cardiff prediction: Manchester City 3-0 Cardiff

Manchester City have won their last 12 matches in all competitions and will be hoping to make it lucky number 13 on Wednesday.

No side has picked up more points (45) or scored more goals (53) at home than Manchester City this season.

City’s last home defeat against a promoted side in the Premier League came 36 games ago, back in 2007.

Guardiola’s side are still competing on three fronts and may have one eye on Saturday’s trip to Wembley.

Manchester City vs Cardiff: Who will win?

Despite winning two of their last five on the road, Cardiff still have the third-worst away record in the division. Only Fulham and Huddersfield have picked up fewer points on the road than Cardiff’s total of 8.

City are massive 1/12 favourites to win while an unlikely Cardiff victory can be backed at 20/1. The draw is priced at 10/1.

No side has scored fewer goals on the road than the Bluebirds (9). City to win and keep a clean sheet is 8/13.

Raheem Sterling left his shooting boots at home on Saturday but with eight goals in his last six matches for club and country(including two hat-tricks), the 24-year-old looks good value to score.

Sterling is 4/1 to open the scoring and 8/11 to score anytime.

City will move back to the top of the Premier League with a win against the Bluebirds.

City eased to a 2-0 win at Fulham on Saturday thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero. The scoreline flattered Fulham, who were utterly dominated by the Premier League champions.

Cardiff were extremely unlucky to lose 2-1 at home to Chelsea on Sunday, with a number of refereeing decisions going against them, including a red card and penalty decision.

More notably, Cesar Azpilicueta’s offside goal was allowed to stand with six minutes of normal time to play. Ruben-Loftus Cheek then scored the winner in stoppage time.

The Bluebirds had previously taken the lead early in the second half through Victor Camarasa.

Neil Warnock has previously said that any points Cardiff manage to take off top six opponents would be considered a bonus, and that their priority is taking points against more equal opposition.

With that in mind, Warnock has hinted at fielding a team of youth players on Wednesday following Cardiff’s controversial defeat – although that seems unlikely.

Cardiff are 18th in the table, five points from safety with seven matches remaining.

Wednesday’s meeting will be the fourth between these two sides in the Premier League. City have won twice and lost once.

City were 5-0 winners when the sides met in the reverse fixture in Wales in September. Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez (2) all got their names on the scoresheet.

Manchester City team news vs Cardiff

Sergio Aguero came off before the hour mark on Saturday as a precaution. Aguero will not be unnecessarily risked ahead of Saturday’s semi-final, meaning Gabriel Jesus is likely to start up front.

The Argentine could even be held back from the Brighton match in order to face Spurs in the Champions League.

Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker could possibly be handed a rest, with Riyad Mahrez and Danilo their most likely replacements respectively.

Fernandinho and John Stones were fit enough to make the bench on Saturday and will be pushing for starts.

Benjamin Mendy has returned to training following a longstanding knee injury, but is still short of match fitness.

Fabian Delph missed out at the weekend with a knock, while Vincent Kompany has a muscle injury and is a doubt.

Cardiff team news vs Manchester City

Warnock’s squad is wearing thin at the moment, with only 19 fit first-team players.

Aron Gunnarsson was forced off with an injury on Saturday, meaning Joe Ralls could start alongside Harry Arter in midfield.

Jazz Richards could return from a thigh injury after missing out once again at the weekend.

Sean Morrison will continue to captain the side as Sol Bamba remains sidelined with a season-ending knee injury.

Oumar Niasse impressed in the lone striker role against the Blues but might be in need of a rest. Kenneth Zohore provides Warnock with another option up front.

Callum Paterson has a long-term ankle injury, as does Matthew Connolly.

Former City youth player Greg Cunningham is in contention to face his old side.
