Manchester City vs Brighton betting tips: FA Cup semi-final match preview & predictions

Manchester City vs Brighton prediction: Manchester City 3-0 Brighton

Having already won this season’s EFL Cup, Manchester City are still competing on three fronts and the FA Cup is very much theirs to lose.

Brighton have lost back-to-back matches in the lead up to the game and are by no means safe from relegation in the Premier League.

City should not underestimate their opponents, however. Four of City’s last six eliminations in the FA Cup have come at the hands of Wigan (three times) and Middlesbrough.

Manchester City vs Brighton: Who will win?

Manchester City are overwhelming favourites at 1/7 while a Brighton win can be backed at 16/1. The draw is priced at 7/1.

Man City have scored at least four goals in three of their four FA Cup matches this season, while Brighton have conceded at least once in each of their four ties. Over 2.5 goals in the match is 19/40.

Although he has failed to score in his last three City appearances, Gabriel Jesus has scored seven goals in domestic cup competitions this campaign. Jesus is 11/4 to score the opening goal of the game and 8/13 to score anytime.

Manchester City vs Brighton FA Cup semi-final match preview

Manchester City take on Brighton at Wembley in the semi-final of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The winners of the match will face one of Wolves or Watford in the final on the 18th of May.

City moved back to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Cardiff on Wednesday night. Kevin de Bruyne and Leroy Sane both scored in the first half. City have now won 13 consecutive matches in all competitions.

Brighton’s 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Wednesday means they are only five points above the relegation zone, although they have played one game fewer than four of the teams below them.

City have enjoyed a particularly easy run to the semi-final. Pep Guardiola’s side have scored 19 goals in four matches en route to Wembley.

City were drawn at home to Rotherham United in the third round, before facing Burnley and Newport County in the fourth and fifth rounds, respectively.

Pep Guardiola’s side made things difficult for themselves in their quarter-final tie against Swansea. City were 2-0 down in Wales before pulling off a second-half comeback.

Likewise, Brighton have only met one Premier League opponent in their Cup run so far. The Seagulls eliminated Bournemouth, West Brom, Derby and Millwall in earlier rounds.

Brighton have only reached the final of the FA Cup once in their history, back in 1983. Albion drew 2-2 with Manchester United in the final before losing 4-0 in the replay at Wembley.

Five-time winners Manchester City will be looking to reach the FA Cup final for the 11th time and the first since 2013.

Manchester City were 2-0 winners when the sides last met in the Premier League in September. Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling scored for Pep Guardiola’s side that day.

Incidentally, the two sides will meet again on the final day of the Premier League season – a match which could very well determine who wins the title.

Manchester City team news vs Brighton

Pep Guardiola made seven changes to City’s starting eleven on Wednesday night in preparation for Saturday.

Sergio Aguero is a major doubt after picking up an injury against Fulham, meaning Gabriel Jesus could lead the line at Wembley.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to miss out after picking up a hamstring injury against Cardiff. With Fabian Delph out as well, and Benjamin Mendy lacking match fitness, Danilo is the most obvious candidate to start at left-back.

Club captain Vincent Kompany is available for selection but is unlikely to start ahead of first-choice pair Amyric Laporte and John Stones.

Phil Foden is City’s leading scorer in the competition with three goals, although the teenager is not expected to start.

Pascal Gross will miss out once again due to a thigh injury. Biryam Kayal and Yves Bissouma are the two main contenders to join Davy Propper and Dale Stephens in Brighton’s three-man midfield.

Solly March was forced off at Stamford Bridge with a calf injury. March faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday.

Anthony Knockaert is expected to start in his place, while Jurgen Locadia, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Jose Izquierdo are contenders for the remaining wide berth.

Locadia missed out against Chelsea due to a minor calf problem but is expected to be available.

Glenn Murray is the obvious choice to start upfront, with Florian Andone his back-up.

Brighton’s right-back Martin Montoya is a product of Barcelona’s youth academy and was at La Masia at the same time as Pep Guardiola.
