Manchester City vs Arsenal prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Arsenal

Manchester City must try and put Tuesday night’s result behind them when they host Arsenal at the Etihad.

Sunday’s match is a must-win one for City who are now five points behind Liverpool.

Arsenal will be looking to win back-t0-back matches for the first since mid-December – 12 games ago.

Manchester City vs Arsenal: Who will win?

Manchester City are 1/3 favourites to win on Sunday. Arsenal are 8/1 while the draw is priced at 5/1.

Only five teams have conceded more goals on the road than Arsenal this season, while Manchester City have scored more home goals than any other side.

The Gunners have kept just one clean sheet in their last 19 Premier League away games. City to win with a -1 handicap is 4/6.

While Sergio Aguero is the most obvious choice to score the opening goal of the game, there are more favourable odds on Aleandre Lacazette. Lacazette is 10/1 to net the opener and 12/5 to score anytime in the game.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Premier League match preview

Manchester City host Arsenal on Sunday in a match that will greatly impact the title race as well as the top four race.

City’s title hopes were dealt a major blow on Tuesday as they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Newcastle. Sergio Aguero gave City the lead in the opening minutes of the match but Pep Guardiola’s side were far from their best in the first half.

Things got worse in the second period when Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie scored for the Toon.

The defeat ended an eight-match winning streak and saw City concede a goal for the first time in seven matches.

City’s blushes were slightly spared as Liverpool squandered their chance to move seven points clear. The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Leicester on Wednesday, meaning the gap between Man City and the Premier League leaders now stands at five.

Arsenal were not at their fluid best either on Tuesday night but still managed to claim all three points against Cardiff at the Emirates. Attacking duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette both scored for the Gunners before Cardiff City pulled one back in second-half stoppage time.

Arsenal then moved up into the top four on Wednesday night on goal difference thanks to Bournemouth’s 4-0 win over Chelsea. Arsenal could potentially slip back down to sixth, however, if they lose on Sunday.

Arsenal and Manchester City have met 43 times in the Premier League, with the Gunners winning 23 matches to Man City’s 10.

Manchester City were 2-0 winners in the reverse fixture in August. Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva were City’s goalscorers at the Emirates in Unai Emery’s first match in charge.

Recent form favours Manchester City, who have beaten Arsenal in their last four meetings across all competitions with an aggregate score of 11-1.

Manchester City team news vs Arsenal

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Pep Guardiola was coy on the fitness of Benjamin Mendy, saying: “Really I don’t know, after the minutes he played, he had minutes in training. He has had two training sessions – really it is day by day.”

Danilo and Fabian Delph are alternate options at left-back.

Sergio Aguero is expected to lead the line but with another match coming up on Wednesday, it would not be a surprise to see Gabriel Jesus start up front.

Bernardo Silva is expected to replace Kevin de Bruyne in the starting eleven.

Vincent Kompany remains out, meaning John Stones could start alongside Ameyric Laporte in defence.

Goalkeeper Ederson Moraes has a knee injury which is currently being assessed.

With Claudio Bravo sidelined, 20-year-old Ari Muric is Ederson’s back-up.

Deadline day signing Denis Suarez could make his Arsenal debut on Sunday off the bench. Suarez was on the books of Manchester City until 2013, but failed to make a first-team Premier League appearance for them.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos could be out for another couple of weeks due to an ankle injury, also picked up against Manchester United.

Club captain Laurent Koscielny has returned to full training. Koscielny missed out against Cardiff after suffering a blow to the head against Manchester United.

The Frenchman did not suffer a fractured jaw but did have to undergo a minor surgical procedure to remove blood clots. Nacho Monreal could slot in alongside Shkodran Mustafi if Koscielny is not risked.

As he did against United and Chelsea, Aaron Ramsey could get the nod ahead of Mesut Ozil.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Henrikh Mkhitaryan both face late fitness tests.

Carl Jenkinson’s cameo against Cardiff may have earned him a start in place of Stephen Lichtsteiner.

Hector Bellerin underwent successful knee surgery after rupturing his ACL against Chelsea. The Spaniard is expected to be out for six to nine months. Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck are further long-term absentees both with knee injuries..
