Manchester City news- Guardiola wants both Kane and Grealish, Laporte expected to return

In this article, we will cover all of today’s Manchester City transfer news.

City after both Kane and Grealish

Little has since happened on these two fronts, but The Athletic have provided an update on the situation on Friday.

The Athletic report that despite reports elsewhere that City will have to choose which of the two to buy, that is not the case and Man City will sign both Kane and Grealish if Spurs and Aston Villa agree to let them go.

The Sky Blues estimate that both players would set them back somewhere between £175m-£215m

And despite City’s wealthy owners, The Athletic claim much of that sum would be balanced by sales, with City prepared to let some big names go and sell off some emerging academy stars.

But how close are the moves for Kane and Grealish? The former seems like a much more complicated bit of business, with The Athletic having this to say:

It will be a long and arduous battle to get a deal over the line and they may find that Levy simply refuses all offers, no matter how attractive they appear.

Grealish, on the other hand, seems to be a less complicated affair, with there confidence that a deal can be wrapped up swiftly. The Manchester powerhouse are also believed to have already agreed personal terms with the midfielder.

Laporte expected back in training

Aymeric Laporte was originally earmarked as one of those who could depart the Etihad Stadium this summer.

The Spanish defender was thought to favour a return to Spain, but is set to be left frustrated. La Liga is currently experiencing something of a financial crisis at the top level, with neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona having the funds to be able to push a transfer for the left-footed defender through.

Real Madrid, perhaps the most likely destination, could have the funds to do so after the anticipated transfer of Raphael Varane to Manchester United is confirmed, but with their target remaining Kylian Mbappe, it seems unlikely that they will want to spend so much on the City man.

As it stands, therefore, Laporte will be returning to Manchester for the upcoming season.

Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus favourites to depart

Of course, players in the forward department will have to leave in order to afford, and accomodate, both Kane and Grealish.

Although previous speculation suggested that Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez were available this summer, both appear to have been reintegrated into the side.

Instead, the two forwards most at risk, as per The Athletic, are Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva. Jesus struggled for gametime despite being the only fit striker for much of the season, with Kevin De Bruyne favoured in the “false 9” position. As such, a move away would suit all parties, with Juventus a potential destination.

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva has failed to kick on to claim a first team spot in the Citizen’s side. A meagre return of just 2 goals and 6 assists across 26 Premier League appearances did nothing to aid his claims of a spot in the first team.

However, Manchester City’s issue will be trying to find bidders for such big ticket players this summer.

Tune in tomorrow for the latest Manchester City transfer news.
