Gundogan’s time at Man City

Ilkay Gundogan joined Manchester City in July of 2016 from German outfit Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £24m.

Gundogan has gone on to make 101 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions.

In those 101 games, he has scored 16 and assisted 16.

The German has also helped City win two League Cups and one Premier League title.

City are also on course to retain the Premier League title, they sit top of the league with eight games left to play.

Gundogan’s contract expires in 2020

Gundogan has also once again been a key member of Man City’s squad this campaign. Especially of late due to Fernandinho being injured.

The 28-year-old, however, does not seem to keen to sign a new deal with Man City.

Gundogan’s current contract expires in July of 2020.

Speaking in City’s pre-match press conference ahead of Schalke, Gundogan was asked how talks are going over a new deal.

His answer seemed to suggest he is not really in talks with City over a new deal at the moment and will instead wait till the summer:

“I would say we are still in talks, but there is no pressure. One day there has to be a decision but I’m very happy at the moment here, especially playing under Pep, and that’s the most important thing now.

“I’m 28 now so obviously my next contract will decide where I will maybe he until the end of my career.

“Everybody feels different, maybe people have an inner feeling for a new challenge. I’m always open-minded for a new challenge but it’s a personal situation, it’s not obvious.

”At the moment I try to play as well as possible and after the season we are going to sit and talk again but my main target for the moment is to go for four competitions and be successful.”
