Manchester City likely to be without two midfielders for Everton clash with Phil Foden also a doubt

Manchester City likely to be without two midfielders for Everton clash with Phil Foden also a doubt

Manchester City vs Everton

Manchester City will play host to Everton this coming Sunday.

The Sky Blues head into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over cross-town rivals, Manchester United.

This result, combined with developments elsewhere in gameweek 11, saw City move up to 2nd in the Premier League table, and to within three points of table-topping Chelsea,

The title race remains wide open, though, and 5th placed Arsenal could actually draw level on points with City this weekend, should the Gunners win and Pep Guardiola’s men lose.

Defeat against Everton, however, does not seem too likely at present. Rafael Benitez’s side are on a horrid run of form which has seen them fail to win any of their last five PL ties.

Manchester City team news

Ahead of his side’s showdown with the Toffees, Pep Guardiola would provide an update on the fitness of three City stars on Friday.

And the news proved of a concerning nature, with Kevin De Bruyne out with Covid-19, Jack Grealish also likely to miss out and Phil Foden something of a doubt:

“Jack is getting better, Phil Foden came back with a problem on his leg and unfortunately Kevin got positive for Covid in Belgium.

“Jack I don’t think so [will be available], Phil maybe.”

When pressed further on De Bruyne’s Covid-19 case, Guardiola stated:

“We found out two days ago, he is here. Forget about fitness and momentum, he is positive now he has to recover. We have to be careful, people are dying from Covid, he is vaccinated so hopefully he will be okay. There is no concern about rhythm it’s about the human being.”
