Manchester City latest club to show interest in Lyon’s Houssem Aouar

Lyon 2 Manchester City 2

Manchester City took on French outfit Lyon on Tuesday as they looked to cement their place at the top of their Champions League group.

The game would remain goalless during the first 45 minutes.

However, Lyon would take a deserved lead in the 55th minute through Maxwel Cornet.

Aymeric Laporte would bring City level just five minutes later.

However, Cornet would give Lyon the lead once again late in the game.

Luckily for Man City, Sergio Aguero would score in the 83rd minute to make it 2-2

This kept Man City top of Group F, three points above second place Lyon and five points above third, ensuring they have made it through to the next round.

They are also extremely likely to top their group even if they lose their last game given they have eight better goal difference than Lyon.

Aouar impresses for Lyon vs Manchester City

While Cornet did score both of Lyon’s goals vs Man City, one player who seems to have caught the eye of Pep Guardiola is Houssem Aouar.

Speaking after the game about Aouar, Pep stated:

“He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.”

As a result, French outlet L’Equipe is now reporting that Manchester City made contact with Aouar’s representatives the day after the Lyon City game.

Aouar is a 20-year-old central midfielder who has been at Lyon for his entire career.

The youngster has made 68 appearances for Lyon’s first team, in which he has scored 13 and assisted 10.

Aouar is also capable of playing on the left-hand side of midfield.
