Manchester City hope to complete £62m Rodri signing ‘by next week’

Man City closing in on their first summer signing

Manchester City are reportedly hoping to complete the £62 million signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri ‘by next week’.

After winning the Premier League title last season, Pep Guardiola looks likely to strengthen his team this summer.

The Etihad side have recently been linked with moves for several players, including João Cancelo and Kalidou Koulibaly.

However, the most concrete links look to be relating to Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri.

According to reports, Rodri is set to make a decision over his future ‘imminently’, and Manchester City will trigger his 70 million euro release clause.

Now, further reports have suggested that Man City hope to complete a deal ‘by next week’.

Deal could be concluded next week

According to the Mirror, City have moved ‘swiftly’ to secure Rodri’s signature, and hope to complete a deal by next week.

Their report claims that ‘Premier League champions City will trigger Rodri’s £62m release clause, leaving only a medical – potentially next week – and an agreement over personal terms to conclude the deal.’

Bayern Munich had previously been linked with a move for Rodri, but it’s claimed that they ‘have conceded defeat in their bid to land Rodri, after the 22-year-old indicated his desire to join City and play for Guardiola.’

With Atletico Madrid having seemingly already signed Rodri’s replacement in Marcos Llorente, it looks as though a move to Man City is very much on.
