Manchester City eyeing move for Napoli midfielder Allan

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester City are interested in signing Napoli midfielder, Allan.

Allan impresses for Napoli

Allan joined Napoli in 2015 from Udinese for a fee of around £10 million.

Since signing for Napoli, Allan has played 148 games in all competitions for the Serie A side.

In those games, Allan has scored eight and assisted 19.

This season, Allan has appeared in all 16 of Napoli’s games this season and has assisted two.

Fernandinho replacement

Allan is naturally a central midfielder who would be a great replacement for Manchester City’s Fernandinho.

City did try to sign another centre mid in the summer as they targeted Napoli midfielder, Jorginho.

However, Jorginho would instead opt to link up with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sari at Chelsea.

As a result, City are very short-handed in the central midfield role this season.

This is something the 33-year-old Fernandinho is well aware of as he has had to play every league and UCL game for City this season.

Speaking about game time catching up with him, Fernandinho stated:

“I’ve already started playing that way of saving a little today to gain tomorrow.

“So every 10 or 15 minutes off now can make me have a longer career.

“That substitution was a conscious decision looking for the weekend game. I know the club haven’t bought a player for my position, so they try to shield me as much as possible. When you are 33, you have to be more careful.”
