Manchester City duo share impressive stat with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi

Messi, Sterling & Sane’s impressive goal contribution tally

Lionel Messi is having yet another simply superb campaign.

In 48 games across all competitions this season, the Argentine has netted 48 and assisted 22.

He also still has a possible two more appearances before Barcelona’s 2018/19 season comes to a close.

Messi’s 2017/18 season saw him score 45 and assist 18 in 54 games.

With these stats, the Barcelona forward is just one of three players in Europe’s top five leagues to reach double figures for both goals and assists in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.

The other two players come from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Both Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have managed to achieve the same feat as one of the world’s greats.

Sterling has scored 23 and assisted 17 in 50 games this campaign, with his 2017/18 stats also standing at 23 goals and 17 assists.

Sane boasts a slightly less impressive record than his City counterpart, but it is excellent nonetheless.

This campaign has seen the German find the net 16 times and assist 18. Sane’s 2017/18 was also pretty similar, scoring 14 and assisting 19.

Man City going for the treble

With two of the only three players in Europe’s top five leagues to hit double figures for goals and assists two seasons running, it isn’t too much of a surprise that City are going for a treble.

Unfortunately for Man City fans, it isn’t a European treble, but they can still manage three domestic trophies this season.

The Citizens clinched the League Cup earlier this year vs Chelsea, before going on to win their second successive Premier League at Brighton.

Now, they have a chance to win the FA Cup vs Watford on May 18th.
