Manchester City confirm Pep Guardiola’s mother has died after contracting COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has consumed the world over the last couple of weeks.

Football has not been immune to the spread of the virus, with the sport virtually at a standstill around the globe.

At the moment, Belarus is the only country in Europe where top-flight football is still taking place.

The Premier League, along with the remaining top-five European leagues, are currently postponed, as the world attempts to contain the virus.

Sadly, though, as per Johns Hopkins University, just over 1.3m people have contracted the virus.

Man City confirm death of Guardiola’s mother

JHU reports that over 70,000 people have died after contracting the coronavirus, with Italy and Spain the worst affected countries.

And unfortunately, Manchester City have, on Monday, confirmed that Pep Guardiola’s mother, Dolors Sala Carrió, who was living in Manresa, Barcelona, has died at 82 years of age after contracting the coronavirus.

The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting Corona Virus. She was 82-years-old .

Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends.

Guardiola donated €1m to the fight against COVID-19 in Spain last month, where there have been over 13,000 deaths as of Monday the 6th of April.

After Man City announced the tragic news on Monday afternoon, a host of clubs and players sent their condolences to Guardiola and his family.
