Ivan Rakitic is apparently on his way to Manchester City this January, in a sensational move to join Pep Guardiola.
That’s according to a Croatian newspaper, who think that the deal could well be done in the next few days.
Rakitic has been omitted from Barcelona’s squad for the game against Villarreal for ‘technical reasons’ which could well end up being the first steps in a move from the club to the Premier League.
It would be something that would shake up the January transfer window – and certainly start a merry-go-round of entrances and exits in the next couple of windows, with other clubs probably also reacting to the signing.
Rakitic is someone who would hope to have an instant impact on the Premier League, and could well see Man City right back in the hunt for the title and Champions League.
So Croatian paper Sportske Novosti have just claimed to break a big story: Ivan Rakitić is "on the verge" of joining Manchester City. pic.twitter.com/HiXJ5UmGg1

Building his own team
Given manager Pep Guardiola has only had one transfer window so far to build up his side, and much has been made of Guardiola refusing to change his mantra and tactics – with concerns over the players he has, and if they can actually fit into the system and style of play he wants.
Rakitic has made it clear he’s unhappy with being in and out of the Barcelona team, and would like to be guaranteed time on the field – and that’s probably something Man City have done.
Quite why Barcelona would let a player who is that good leave remains to be seen, but money certainly talks, and City are a club who have plenty of it.
