Manchester City are reportedly ‘very interested’ in Bayern Munich’s David Alaba

Alaba’s Bayern Munich stint

David Alaba has spent all of his senior career on Bayern Munich’s books.

In total, the defender has notched 372 appearances across all competitions for the German powerhouse.

In those clashes, Alaba has scored 30 and assisted 48.

The Austrian international has also won a plethora of trophies whilst plying his trade with the Bundesliga outfit, including the Champions League and a staggering eight league titles.

The 27-year-old has also once again been a regular starter for Bayern this term, featuring 28 times.

Man City eyeing Alaba

Alaba is currently contracted to Bayern until the summer of 2021, meaning he has less than 18 months remaining on his deal.

And amid another solid campaign in Germany, the defender looks to be attracting interest from around Europe.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona believe a transfer for Alaba could be possible this summer. But Alaba’s current salary, which Sport cite as being €8m-per-season, could be a problem for the Catalan club.

However, a different report from Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, claims that Manchester City are also very interested in the defender.

The article from Sport Witness claims that City tried to sign Alaba last summer, and are now once again talking to him.

Alaba would no doubt prove a very useful signing for the Citizens, whose defence is pretty poor.

Alaba is a left-back by trade, an area in which Man City are somewhat lacking quality.

But he has also spent a good chunk of this campaign doing a decent job at centre-back for Bayern. And the centre of defence is another area where City are somewhat devoid of quality at the moment.
