Man Utd will face Liverpool having played the same amount of matches after FA confirm fixture reschedule / Lingard extends deal
Man Utd fixture rescheduled and will now play Liverpool having completed the same amount of Premier League matches in top of the table clash.
Manchester United vs Burnley rescheduled
The fixtures are coming thick and fast in the Premier League. With postponements taking place, match congestion is only going to increase as the weeks go on and the threat of further Covid-19 positive test results could worsen the situation.
However, the FA has now confirmed that the Manchester United vs Burnley match will be played in the week leading up to to the top of the table clash with Liverpool. The match is now set to take place on Tuesday the 12th of January.

The following Sunday brings the Merseyside-Manchester clash with United having the opportunity to go top with a win should they also win against Aston Villa and the rearranged Burnley fixture.
MEN revealed that many of the players within the Manchester United camp were willing to forgo the week’s recovery ahead of the match with Liverpool in order to play Burnley.
Supposedly, the players wanted to go into the match with the current Champions having played the same amount of games. There is clearly confidence growing within the ranks at Old Trafford that there could be something special for the side this season who are just three points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.
United extend Jesse Lingard contract
Manchester United have extended the contract of Jesse Lingard by activating the one-year extension option included in his previously signed deal. The England international now has his agreement run until the summer of 2022.
It is likely that the northwest club looked to protect the value of their player by activating the option. Lingard has failed to secure a regular first-team place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s eleven but has faced difficulties with Covid isolation.
“He’s been working hard in training,” said Solskjaer. “He’s been unfortunate with having to isolate a few times, been in contact, or close contact with Covid, not even having it himself.

“He’s been very unlucky being away from the training ground a few times. He works really hard.”
Manchester United also recently extended Paul Pogba’s deal at the club despite the Frenchman also having his own difficulties with regular game time. The technique appears to be used to ensure that United can sell a player for a fee representative of the player’s quality and less affected by the length of time remaining on the player’s deal.
