Man United’s Romelu Lukaku dumps Mino Raiola, Chelsea misunderstanding was key to split

Man United’s Romelu Lukaku dumps Mino Raiola

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has split from super-agent Mino Raiola.

Raiola was instrumental in Lukaku moving to Man United for 75 million pounds from Everton in 2017.

However the former pizza-boy, Raiola, has now lost his star Belgian client.

Lukaku decided to leave Raiola in April and the Man United striker has reportedly joined P&P Sports management.

That company is headed up by Italian agent Federico Pastorello.

Pastorello has a long list of high-profile clients including Antonio Conte, Patrice Evra and Kevin Prince Boateng.

Pastorello was key in taking Conte to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea misunderstanding was key to split

So why has Man United’s Lukaku joined forces with Federico Pastorello?

According to Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window podcast, Lukaku split with Raiola because “he’s got fed up” with how the super-agent has been handling his business.

Specifically, Lukaku was upset with Raiola for how he ended up joining Man United and not Chelsea.

On the Chelsea talks, Castles claims that there was a “misunderstanding”.

Lukaku thought Raiola was in talks with Chelsea’s chief deal-maker Marina Granovskaia.

However it later transpired that Raiola was only discussing Lukaku’s possible Chelsea move with then-manager Antonio Conte.

Duncan Castles stopped short of saying that Lukaku preferred to join Chelsea over Man United, however that seemed to be the intimation.

How does this affect Man United?

That’s a difficult question to answer.

Fans should be hesitant to jump to conclusions. Just because Lukaku has switched agent, that doesn’t mean the striker is set to leave Man United anytime soon.

Yet Man United may be happy that Lukaku has split with Raiola.

Raiola has taken several high profile clients to Old Trafford in recent times, for example Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba. The agent has been hugely enriched by those deals.

United may be pleased the super-agent is now losing his hold on one Man United asset.
