Man United’s Romelu Lukaku admits having problems with his physique

Man United’s Romelu Lukaku on his body shape

One criticism levelled at Man United striker Romelu Lukaku this season is that he’s too bulky.

Pictures have circulated on social media revealing just how chunky Lukaku has got this season.

Rather than suggesting Lukaku is overweight, the Belgian has been viewed as simply too muscular.

Lukaku had appeared to gain muscle in the gym, which has hampered his movement on the pitch.

Now the Man United striker has admitted his body-shape was out of whack at the start of the Premier League season.

Why? Lukaku believes his training for the World Cup has backfired in the English top flight. He said:

Me and the medical staff did a lot of tests [early in the season] to see what was the problem.

I put on a bit of muscle at the World Cup. I just felt great and I played great over there, and then when I came back [to England] it is a different type of style.

When you are in the Premier League, I cannot play with the same amount of muscle as international football. I knew I had to lose muscle so I stayed out of the gym, drank a lot of water, and ate a lot of veg and fish.

Romelu Lukaku starts scoring again

During last weekend’s 4-1 win over Fulham, Lukaku found the back of the net for Man United’s third of the game.

Lukaku also found the net in the recent 2-2 draw at Southampton in the Premier League.

In total Lukaku has six goals in the Premier League this season.

Valencia vs Man United

Man United head to Spain this week to take on Valencia in the Champions League.

While Jose Mourinho’s side may be struggling domestically, the Red Devils have already sealed their place in the knockout phase of the European competition.

This match is a bit of a dead-rubber, as Valencia already know they’ll drop into the Europa League after finishing third in their group.
