Man United’s Paul Pogba reveals he is using Frank Lampard as an ‘example’

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has this evening confirmed that, following the advice of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has begun using Chelsea legend Frank Lampard as an ‘example’ for timing his bursts forward from midfield.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester United

The Red Devils made the trip to North London to take on Tottenham a short time ago, with the visitors having headed into proceedings hopeful of continuing their stellar recent run of form under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Since the former United hitman’s appointment in the aftermath of Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month, the club had picked up 5 straight victories across all competitions (before today).

And yet another impressive performance on the part of the Manchester giants at Wembley this evening eventually saw the Red Devils emerge with 3 points.

Marcus Rashford bagged the only goal of the clash, driving home past Hugo Lloris from a tight angle on the stroke of half-time.

The second-half saw Spurs push hard for an equaliser, only to be met by an absolutely inspired David De Gea.

The Spanish shot-stopper racked up an incredible 11 saves over the course of the clash, to secure a vital 3 points in his side’s push for a spot in the Premier League’s top-4.

Pogba shining

Another of United’s star performers this evening, meanwhile, was Paul Pogba.

French midfielder Pogba has undergone an absolute transformation since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment at Old Trafford, once again looking like the dominant force that he so long represented during his time with Serie A giants Juventus.

Central to his sudden upturn in form has been the 25-year-old’s more attack-minded role under his new boss, with Pogba having been freed from the defensive shackles placed on him by Jose Mourinho.

As a result, the World Cup winner has emerged as the key protagonist in the free-flowing, attacking brand of football introduced by Solskjaer, with Pogba’s assist for Marcus Rashford versus Spurs today the latest of 8 direct goal involvements in his last 5 Premier League appearances.

‘Get into the box’

As such, speaking in a post-match interview this evening, the Frenchman was questioned on his more-advanced role of late, with Pogba having confirmed that the new tactics introduced by Solskjaer have made playing his natural game less ‘difficult’.

‘I love playing big matches and against the best players. That’s where we improve and progress. It was a big one for us. Everyone played well.’

‘I’m enjoying playing football. It was really difficult with the tactics we used to play. I like to play more attacking. Defending is not my best attribute.’

In addition, after making a number of driving runs into the Spurs box in an attempt to get on the end of deliveries over the course of the 90 minutes at Wembley this evening, Pogba also revealed that he is using former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as an ‘example’ on how to make the most of his new role:

‘The manager told me to get in the box, get goals. My best example is Frank Lampard. He’s the one who makes those runs.’

‘That’s what we want. That’s why we play. We need to keep it up. We won today and got three points.’
