Man United’s Alexis Sanchez struggles with Chile

Man United & Alexis Sanchez

He’s the best played player in the Premier League, but Alexis Sanchez isn’t playing like it this season for Manchester United.

After moving to Old Trafford from Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez agreed a 500,000 pounds a week contract with the Red Devils.

Yet, after 12 Premier League matches this season, Sanchez only has one Premier League goal to his name. The Chilean has chipped in with three assists.

As a result, rumours have popped up in recent weeks suggesting Alexis Sanchez’s Man United career could soon be coming to an end.

Chile 2 – Costa Rica 3

During the international break, Alexis Sanchez appears to have carried over his Man United struggles with Chile.

Chile, the former Copa America champions, have been in decline in recent years as they failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Over the weekend, Chile were beaten 3-2 at home against Costa Rica.

Costa Rica established a 3-0 lead in South America. Kendall Waston scored twice in the match – either side of the halftime break – while Roland Matarrita added a third in the 64th.

Chile staged a late fightback, and they could have snatched a draw had Alexis Sanchez been sharper.

Sebastian Vegas got Chile on the board in the 70th minute.

In the 80th minute, Alexis Sanchez won a penalty for Chile when he grabbed around his neck in the Costa Rica box.

Sanchez stepped up to take the spot-kick, but his effort was poor.

The Man United striker struck a low shot virtually down the middle, and Costa Rican keeper Esteban Alvarado  made a simple save with his legs.

With a minute left on the clock, Alexis Sanchez found the back of the net.

However it’s fair to say that even when the Man United striker scored, he got lucky with a kind touch off a Costa Rican defender to play the ball into his path.
