Man United ‘working very hard’ on trying to sign Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt – Jan Aage Fjortoft

Man United & Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt

Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Manchester United are actively trying to sign Ajax centre-half and captain Matthijs de Ligt.

Fjortoft, a former Norwegian international and Premier League footballer, now works as a reporter for Viasport.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning, Fjortoft has claimed:

Be sure! (Manchester United) are working VERY hard to get (Ajax’s de Ligt).

But can Man United really land de Ligt?

Having finished sixth in the Premier League, United can only offer Europa League football to a 19-year-old who just scored in a Champions League semi-final.

Man United also appear to face stern competition for de Ligt’s signature.

Guillem Balague claims Man United aren’t in de Ligt race

Fjortoft’s hot take was dismissed by Guillem Balague yesterday.

Balague, the Spanish football expert, has claimed that only three clubs are in the running to sign de Ligt.

Those clubs are Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Balague also reported that while Liverpool showed interest in de Ligt 18-months ago, the Reds are no longer likely to sign the Ajax star.

Is de Ligt signing for Barcelona?

Sky Sports News have told their viewers that de Ligt appears set to join Barcelona.

However, ESPN are reporting that Barcelona’s chances of signing de Ligt have cooled.
