Jamie Redknapp has explained why Manchester United miss Paul Pogba so much, and despite winning against West Brom, need to have him back in the side as soon as possible.
The Sky Sports pundit pointed to the control Pogba gives the United midfield and also his creativity – and drew parallels between Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic in terms of how static the pair can be together – and admitted that Pogba provides that bit extra movement in the middle of the park.
He also pointed to the fact Pogba didn’t have the best time after arriving at Old Trafford, but that his second season at the club has been brilliant.
“I know last year he didn’t have the best year, but they miss him so much at the moment,” Redknapp said of Paul Pogba on Sky Sports.
“Controlling that midfield, it just gives them legs in there and a bit more creativity.
“At times with Herrera and Matic it’s very similar, no one really pops that ball around quickly.
“Manchester United have done that so often for many, many years, someone in midfield where the pace of pass is different.
“I think those are too similar.”
One player who has struggled this season at times is Romelu Lukaku, who has failed to shake off the accusation that he can’t score against top clubs and that he needs to do more in terms of leading the line for the club in the biggest of games.
After scoring against his former club West Brom, Lukaku didn’t celebrate and many people once again threw the accusation he only scores against the weaker teams, but the forward has retained the support of his teammates and manager Jose Mourinho, who has backed him time and time again this season, making it clear he values the player in terms of far more things than just his goals.
